Product Description Can we really afford to standbyHouseholds in the UK now spend around 10% of their electricity bill on standby power. The average household has up to 12 gadgets left on standby or charging at any one time (Source: Energy Saving Trust) Bye Bye Standby is a brand new energy saving solution designed to reduce the daily energy consumption of electrical devices. Bye Bye Standby works by completely cutting power to the devices plugged into it when they're not in use, thus saving the power that these devices would otherwise have consumed in Standby Mode. Bye Bye Standby is a new way to save energy, carbon emissions and money. Simply plug your Bye Bye Standby socket into a mains wall socket and plug an electrical appliance directly into it. With the choice of a Bye Bye Standby remote control or simple wall switch (model dependent), you can turn individual or grouped appliances on or off at the push of a button (up to 30 metres away). It will even work through walls and ceilings! Additional Bye Bye Standby sockets, remote controls and switches can be purchased separately to suit your individual needs. Individual Socket Control: Make sure your Bye Bye Standby Remote and your Bye Bye Standby Socket are set to the same House Code and Appliance Number. The House Code refers to the letter (A to H) and the Appliance Number refers to the numeric dial (1 to 8). For example... set your Bye Bye Standby Remote to A and one of your Bye Bye Standby Sockets to A1. Plug your standby appliance into the Bye Bye Standby Socket. Now plug the Bye Bye Standby Socket into a mains wall socket. Note: if you have a 4-way adapter you can control 4 appliances instead of just one from the same socket. You can now switch that appliance on and off wirelessly from up to 30m away at the touch of a button (green buttons on the remote switch ON, grey buttons switch OFF). Page function: when set to Page I your Bye Bye Standby Remote will control appliances which are set to numbers 1-4. If yo

does what it says August 14, 2008 bzooboy (UK) great product, simple to setup and works a treat. I have a large tv unit with 3 x 4 gang extensions behind one of which has my media center, adsl router and a homeplug connected. The router has no on/off switch so I needed to pull out the mains adaptor each night as it runs quite hot but no more! The 4 gang is now on one of these and I now have to hit one button. The only warning I would give is not to daisy chain extensions together with one of these on each 4 gang. The one for my IT equipment was fed from a socket board (via a bbs socket) which had tv and 2 satellite boxes on when I powered off the socket board for the tv it blew the fuse on the four gang for the IT kit. I now have seperate feeds for each of the bbs plugs
Absence of a Manual on off Switch Makes This Unit Impractical July 24, 2008 Honest Dude (London) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The idea behind this product is good; it enables you to switch electric appliances on or off even if they are in another room. However, none of the units have a manual on off switch, so if you arrive in another room and want to switch your appliance on or off, unless you have the remote control with you it cannot be done. In my opinion having to constantly carry the remote control around with you or even worse search for it in another room, makes using this unit a hassle. Another more minor fault, is it does not have an LED light to indicate whether the appliance is switched on or off. By contrast, a good timeswitch will include a manual override switch and a light to indicate whether the unit is switched on or off. I will be returning this to the shop from which I bought it.
Great, but ........ July 9, 2008 Mr. K. Butters (Hertfordshire, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well, it does what it says on the tin, it is a great idea, very easy to use and control. Easy in every way. Only one thing grating on me. Each plug has a red light on it to say that it is on, now, call me silly, but is'nt the idea of taking things off stanby to illiminate the stanby lights as well? Not sure why you need these lights, because you know when something is on when it turns on! Anyway, enough of the rant, still a great little item.
Excellent Product, But ... June 22, 2008 Kaio 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a neatly designed compact remote controlled socket EXCEPT that it lacks one essential feature - manual override switch. This is my third product type to look at in the quest for a near perfect one. The two I have looked at so far have manual override switch (but have some other limitations), and I took for granted that this feature would be available with this one. Why manual override? Imagine if you have mis-placed your remote control (happened to me in a short space of time after I bought this switch) or ran out of battery. The only option you have in this case is to remove the Bye Bye Standby between the mains socket and connected equipment. With manual override you would simply reach for a switch (on the body of a remotely controlled socket) to do what you would have done with its remote.
excellent, cannot find a fault June 22, 2008 Colin (Azerbaijan) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought one set for my mother - she likes to switch off the various TVs and stuff around the house each night to save electricity. However, she is 88, suffers with osteo-arthritis and walks with a frame. With this kit she can do it all from one room with no bending over or scrabbling behind bookcases etc. She finds the buttons easy to use. I bought one for her next-door neighbour also for the same reasons (and by setting the zones different, there is no danger of interference), and now I have bought a set (plus a few heavy duty sockets) for myself. I find it simple, reliable, useful functionality to have coded settings to control devices both individually and simultaneously, and I have found no shortcomings yet. I highly reccommend it.
