Fantastic radio microphone for the price August 25, 2008 P. Welton 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R1VIENM7ZCHAQD Good sound is essential to a good video. A radio microphone allows you to capture good sound while freeing up the subjects to wander far from the camera. This radio microphone is simple to use and works well. My review demonstrates the range over which it can be used; the sound quality; and summarizes my overall opinion as well as some of the disadvantages. Finally, it tries to lighten the tone a little!
Does just the job May 19, 2008 A. WISDOM (UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you do have a compatible camera then this is a great microphone. Originally I purchased the Handycam gun mic, but was really disappointed with the sound quality. However after reading reviews on US Amazon I decided to risk buying this mic. I wasn't disappointed at all. The mic is really easy to use and the sound quality is great. The mic is a bit big and bulky and you have to be careful about noise from clothing etc, but if you can control these factors then it's great. It picks up sound from a reasonably wide area so I intend to use it more as an off-camera microphone, rather than a lapel mic. This way I get sound closer to the action and without any camera noise. The range is good and the receiver has a very handy earphone socket to monitor the sound coming from the mic. This means you can be aware of any sound issues at the time, rather than when it's too late. I would prefer if Sony allowed third party microphones to be used with their cameras, but actually consumer grade cameras very rarely do. So considering this is the path I've gone down I'm delighted that they've produced this great mic.
Warning! January 15, 2008 Mr C (UK) 6 out of 17 found this review helpful
This microphone only works with certain Sony camcorders. Do not buy it expecting it to work with ANY camcorder. Be aware that a lot of the cheaper camcorders do not have mic inputs nor do they have the Sony Active Interface Shoe which is the only way that this mic attaches to a Sony camera. You know if your camera has one as it is a symbol of a tilted line attached to the letter i, or it could be a j. Could be a little guy sat at a table. Or most likely a combination of the letters A and i. The old interface on my old Sony camera, an i and a triangle, does not work. Rather than send it back, I ordered a Sony camera that it will fit. If it is any good I will re-rate this accordingly. Until then it gets a one star as a warning to everyone that unless they have a Sony camera with the correct active interface, do not buy this microphone. Just another example of Sony being Sony and only making products that work with other products made by Sony (recently).
