Best mouse I've ever used. August 25, 2008 Rasputin I bought a Wireless Mighty Mouse to use with my Macbook because I hate using the touchpad. Straight away I was impressed by the quality feel of the mouse, it is very typical of Apple in that it has had a lot of thought put into its design meaning that not only do you get something which looks great but you feel confident that it is going to last and continue working well. Setup in OS X (Leopard) was a doddle, connected straight away with no issues at all and has remained in use ever since. I use Logic 8 Pro and find that the scroll ball on this mouse makes navigation on the timeline particularly good. Not only can you scroll with the usual vertical movement but also from left to right. This makes moving to areas of the track I'm working on quick and easy. I also find it very handy when moving through my music in iTunes which I have setup in the cover flow system. Battery life seems encouraging, I've had it in almost constant use for the last three months on the first charge of a pair of rechargable batteries, the intelligent power management seems to be pretty effective. The extra side buttons are a little stiff and I find them a bit annoying to use but they serve a purpose and being asignable is definately benificial. I do find the scroll ball a little flimsy feeling but I'm sure it's designed to feel this way and so I'm not overly concerned. To sum up I would say that this is a great buy. It's well made, nice to look at and very effective, the price may be a bit high and so this coupled with my slight gripes about the side buttons and scroll ball means that it doesn't get 5 stars.
Brilliant... until it breaks August 7, 2008 nicjaytee (London) The Apple Mighty mouse (in both USB and wireless formats) is a worthy contender for the best mouse ever made. In particular, its tiny hyper-sensitive vertical & horizontal scroll button genuinely speeds up on-screen "productivity" to a level that, once you've got used to it, nothing else will do. Brilliant, that is until the scroll button stops working which in my case is about every 9 to 12 months. Bad news then... well yes, no piece of kit should do this, but right or wrong that's the way it is and when it happens I happily shell-out for a new one because it's that good to use. Look on it as the world's best disposable mouse and you won't be disappointed...
NOOOOOOPE July 3, 2008 Spyros (London) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have to admit that is just an amazing idea for mouse BUT IT DOESN'T WORK I have the wireless for more than one year and i have problem from the secong month with the dragball. however i found out that all my friends have the same problem. I contacted Apple they sent to turn the mouse upside down and scroll it in a piece of paper. it is working only for one day , then the same... Its a pity .. One start and it is too much .. i'm expecting an update from macintosh. I don't think there is someone outhere who haven't experienced the same problem
Supermouse! June 22, 2008 Dr. H. Beentje (Kew, England) This is a very well-designed mouse, as you would expect, and you quickly get used to the clicking action. On normal batteries it runs for a long time; much less so on rechargeable batteries, sadly. You can click the wheel as well as scrolling it, and of course you can customize all functions: main button, side squeeze, wheel, wheel click. The wheel is small, but scrolls perfectly in my fingers! My only niggle is that after a year's use the mouse needs quite regular cleaning, say once every two weeks [shock! horror!]. The first few times this happened it was worrying - you can suddenly only scroll up and nothing else! I have found that the best way to clean it (better than the damp cloth recommended) is to have a microfibre cloth stretched tight and roll the mouse upside-down over the cloth, so the wheel rolls along the cloth surface. After a few good rolls (exert quite a bit of pressure, this is a strong mouse!) it will be good as new. Apart from this this is the best mouse I have used, full stop. Four-and-a-half stars, really, as it is pretty perfect for small hands.
Is this mouse as good as it looks? May 24, 2008 George Badham (Guildford) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
`Is this mouse as good as it looks?' Was the question I posed myself, having bought the product. I'm using it with my macbook so I didn't want any wires, or USB devices, clogging up my hub on the move. The mouse integrates very well with the mac, it is completely wireless as it runs off the mac's inbuilt Bluetooth. The mouse is also easy to use and set-up. It took all of a minute without even a glance at the instructions to get the mouse paired to the computer, the apple utility basically does it all for you. The side clicks work very well to bring up exposé as a preset. Left and right click are easy to use, although I find that very occasionally I have to right click twice for it to work- maybe its just my massive fingers. The other click is on the scroll wheel. This is preset to bring up the dashboard but ,as with all the buttons, you can program it to do whatever you like very easily in the system preferences. For example, I set my middle click to bring up spaces. This means I can bring up all my spaces with the middle click, and then use the side click function to bring up exposé, showing me all my windows in every space at once. Battery life is miraculous. I bought the mouse 4 months ago and haven't turned it off properly since and its still got full charge using the supplied lithium AA batteries. I haven't read it anywhere, but I think that the mouse goes to sleep when not in use, and so conserves battery life. In terms of cleaning the mouse, all is made clear in the instructions. Basically you clean it with a damp cloth. I haven't had to clean it yet despite my worries that the scroller ball would collect dirt. As long as you have more or less clean fingers whilst using it no grime accumulates. I would definitely recommend this mouse to laptop users because it makes life so much easier. The mouse is highly portable and is actually a lot more rugged than most modern day electronic products, although I do keep it in a hard case whilst traveling. I would still recommend this wireless version of the mighty mouse to a desktop user, just because the battery life is so great, there are no wasted USB ports and its just so stylish! So in short, this mouse really is as good as it looks and is highly ergonomic and intuitive to use, fitting right into the palm of your hand.
