Excellent quality document and negative scanner June 22, 2008 Tim1 (London) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have now used this scanner for a wide variety of purposes, from modern prints and negatives to very ropey images - and it has performed excellently across the board. Personally, I ignore the 'one-touch' buttons, prefering to maintain control from within more advanced software - in this case version 5 of Photoshop elements which ships free with the scanner (two birds, one stone - I was looking to upgrade some version numbers anyway!). This software bundle really is an incredible bonus and will have even the most severely damaged images looking like new in no time. The driver software allows you to perform a preview scan and then apply an incredible level of control over your images including full RGB tone curve control etc. If this makes no sense to you then don't worry - the default settings do as good a job as anything else not costing several hundred pounds more. If you are just using defaults then have no fear - from taking it all out of the box it's very simple to install and start playing. The only drawback is that with older scanners you could set them going and then do something else productive with your time - this thing however is so speedy at the scans you just plough through your images with no time between! This scanner comes highly recommended - and although the USB cable may not be the longest ever, it will look very sleek sat on your desk.
I was surprised and relieved October 22, 2007 Chabert (Greenock) 81 out of 82 found this review helpful
i bought this scanner in replacement of the canon 9900F whhich had me very disappointed. However with the canoscan 8800f, i must say i was agreably surpirsed and reieve. I spent the weekend scanning Slides. and the result is very decent and fast. In fact, whether with the 9900F i spent nighmarish hours to obtain mediocre results and was unable to perform batch scans with decent results ; with the 8800f, i was able to obtain more than satisfactory results (with good reproduction of colors from the original slides) and furthermore i could relax or do something else was the 8800 was managing the scan. At last i am able to put my slides to cd without having to spend huge prices or spend hours on a single scan. The price is fairly decent and the design is very sleek. I strongly recommand this scanner.
