Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Flash! Ah-ah.   July 11, 2008

It's a flash drive. Sturdy and durable is the intention and this doesn't fail. It looks cool, it feels cool and it works. I bought two! Not a lot else to say here. Thumbs up.

5 out of 5 stars Remove the U3 software if any problems!   June 28, 2008

I bought this to use to transfer Divx files from my PC and play via my Philips DVD player USB port. I've had another SanDisk USB flash drive for a while now which has stood the test of time and proved very reliable. It's also compatible with my player (a lot aren't) which is why I decided to stick with the same brand. Shock, horror! When I Plugged this one into my player I was advised that 'USB not compatible'!

Quickly came to the conclusion it was probably the U3 software and indeed removing the U3 software quickly rectified the problem.

The removal tool is included on the stick so theres no need to search the internet for it.

With the USB plugged into my PC double-clicked on the 'U3 System' showing in 'My Computer' under removable devices. This brought up a new window.
The second option down is to remove the U3 software and use device for storage only. Selected it and a few seconds later it was removed. As well as removing the software it also leaves you with the option to re-install the U3 software should you want it at a later date by opening the drive and clicking on the 'RestoreU3' icon.

Drive works brilliantly now. Copies files at good speed without errors and is compatible with my player. If I want to use it for anything else I can restore the U3 software.

I like the retractable plug (I'm forever losing the top on my other one) and it seems sturdy enough.

Just what I wanted!

5 out of 5 stars Nice bit of kit   November 22, 2007

Last week I got around to purchasing one of these little devices. I needed a way to easily transfer files between home & university on a daily basis - and this is proving excellent for the purpose.

completely plug & play - comes up straight away as a new drive, then just drag & drop, or save directly.
pretty fast transfer speeds
small
light
big capacity
runs readyboost for vista
What more do you need?

And the best thing of all - finally a useful gadget to replace my keyfob.

5 out of 5 stars Seemed a little pointless but...   October 23, 2007

I needed a memory stick for my Uni course so I bought one of these in Staples thinking it was a 2GB memory stick (Which it is). After fiddling about I discovered what the U3 software was and nearly deleted it thinking it was pointless but I'm glad I didn't! I deleted the shareware games and other programs then downloaded Firefox from the U3 site along with a plug in and now I can use Firefox on the uni pc's and have all my bookmarks with me as well! I've also got a quick image editing program to hand as well as well as a couple of others, I've found it really useful! There's not a massive amount of software available yet but developers seem to be adding to the list. The programs don't take up a great deal of space and you can limit on the disk how much space the U3 + software uses. The retractable plug seems sturdy enough and overall it is well built. The only problem I have is the light is ridiculously bright and it does get warm after a while - probably from the orange light - at least you'll be able to warn ships should a lighthouse near you fail. Haven't had any problems with incompatibility yet, used it on my laptop and the uni PC's (they have 2 different types of machine) all on windows XP Home + professional.
I have 4 programs that have used 100MB in total, including the U3 software itself.

2 out of 5 stars Not for everyone   September 21, 2007

Whilst this worked fine on my laptop and opened a useful interactive menu it failed completely on my desktop computer, finally being detected as two separate drives of 0 bytes each. I didn't get as far as trying it on the networked work computer I had hoped to transfer files to but I strongly suspect what the result would have been.
If this happens your options are either to wipe the software with the special utility on the SanDisk web site (potentially risking your warranty) or ask for a refund. I asked for a refund and bought another Kingston drive to replace the one I lost. Try entering "sandisk cruzer u3 removal" in Google for info on the potential problems.
