1 out of 5 stars Typical Epson   April 10, 2008

The printer performed well initially but like most Epson printers has a very short lifespan and consumes the ink at an incredible rate. After a month or so of use it failed to re-produce colours, especially skin tones, with any accuracy and no amount of calibration and head cleaning seems to be able to remedy it. Ok if you want larger prints on a budget and can sacrifice quality.

2 out of 5 stars Beware - disappointed!   March 29, 2008

Just got my R2400 and first impressions suggest that this is not a good all-round printer; if you expect it do documents on plain paper using the photo black ink it only prints black as grey, and all colours are pale. On Epson's gloss media pictures are greyish and dark. Looks as though it will only work within the limitations of Epson's bespoke media and inks (having just moved from another Epson printer I, like many others, have found it is worth paying for the reliability you get from Epson inks). Many have found printing on matte media more reliable, and the R2400 is supposed to be v.good on black and white printing. For the price and the claims by Epson and reviews....disappointing.

3 out of 5 stars What a poor printer   March 6, 2008

I recently purchased this printer, unfortunately this was a big mistake as nowhere do Epson or Amazon tell you that the printer cannot hold all 9 ink cartridges it can only hold 8 out of the 9 supplied. This is a real pain as you have to choose Matt Black or Gloss Black and so if you are printing a Photo imeadiately after a good black and white piece of art you have to swap the cartridges. What a PAIN!! Sorry Epson this printer has gone back to Amazon and been replaced by the Canon Pixma 9500 which is superb and holds all 10 (YES 10) of its ink cartridges at the same time.

5 out of 5 stars Epson R2400 - CONGRATULATIONS EPSON!!!!   November 11, 2007

I have had my Epson R2400 now for nearly a month have done over 50 prints and I am absolutely delighted with the printer quality. It is an absolute dream come true for me - I am no longer stuck with the rather tedious banding, can get true black and white prints and changing ink cartridges and getting them aligned couldn't be more simple.

I would recommend this printer to anyone, domestic users and for the professional. The ink usage is by far fair - for what you would spend on ink cartridges and paper for a printer of a lower quality on unusable prints due to banding you save with the R2400.

The R2400 by absolutely no means drinks ink as some people put it - it just merely does its job and that is print a very high standard print. If you have a high resolution monitor I guarantee you you will get what you see on your monitor.

Also you can print text with the R2400 - for an A4 side I don't think I got past six seconds before the page was printed!

The Epson R2400 has saved me money already... Goodbye banding!

This is a complete update on this machine. Having only owned it for just over a year. The printer suffered endlessly with blocked heads. Unblocking them causes a massive ink loss. It doesn't give satisfactory glossy prints and after all the head cleaning I did it gave a message telling me that parts inside the printer were beyond their serviceable life. On the 8th July 2008 I took this pile of scrap down to the tip and waved goodbye to it as it went into the depths of the hopper to be mangled up with all the other rubbish. This has taught me a lesson. After now having owned 4 Inkjet printers, namely Epson and Lexmark, I will never ever purchase another inkjet as long as I've got a hole in my backside. Total waste of money I will go back to using photolabs.
