Avoid!!!!!!! September 25, 2008 Mr. A. R. Lowdon (Newcastle, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Same problem as everyone else. Good phone until one by one the units died. Nothing seems to fix it. It's absolute rubbish. DO NOT BY THIS PHONE!!!!
Life Span of 12 Months.... September 5, 2008 Mrs. C. Herring (Norwich, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Purchased this just over 12 Months ago. At first all seemed well.... but now that it's just past it's warranty period, things have started to go seriously wrong. Firstly, the answering machine has packed up. Although switched on, does not pick up calls. Secondly, the handsets only give one ring on incoming calls then stops. Result.... many, many missed calls. Extremely unhappy!
Will no longer charge August 19, 2008 HL Holden (Devon) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Simlar to the other reviewer. Just over 12 months old 4 handsets 0 battery life 0 happiness - apart from the husband who likes the smaller phone bills.
Disappointed July 23, 2008 Mr. Fixit (Nantwich, Cheshire) 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
I bought the Phillips CD 235 Quattro cordless digital answering machine just over 12 months ago. This was to replace a similar system which although working wasn't digital. As with all these systems you need to programme the speed dial individually into each handset, so nothing new there, otherwise set up is simple and straightforward. We have a longish garden and I wanted to be able to carry a handset with me when down the garden in my workshop/shed but the range although described as 50m wasn't really that far. I suppose I could have improved this by moving the base unit upstairs but then the answering machine wouldn't be immediately visible when you came in the house. My disappointment however is that now, just over 12 months later ( I bought the kit from Argos in May 2007) the handsets or batteries have begun to fail. Despite being "stored" on the charging pods, first one handset, and then another failed to maintain its charge so when you picked up the handset to answer a call, it flashed low battery and the call is lost. I have even tried using non-rechargeable batteries in the hand set as a temporary measure to see if it was the batteries that were knackered, but this doesn't work either. I work in telecomms and took the first handset to our repair workshop. Even the techhies there couldn't work out what was going wrong testing the batteries, charging pod and handset and came to the conclusion that something in the charging circuit in the handset was failing (a diode???) I have tried looking up a technical helpline for Phillips (units came from France!) without success. Looked at other reviews and this seems to be not an uncommon failure. Suufice to say, I won't be buying a replacement from Phillips for our home system.
