shure....the best September 22, 2008 Gary Ballantyne Wow, i had never been a fan of this type of headphones, always had traditional one's....But after reading reviews like this i thought i would try them, worth every penny, sound range is superb, the next ones up give better bass, but by playing with your system equaliser that solves that problem...make sure you buy the clear ear buds from shure, they are a better fit than the supplied buds...
Good, but not that good September 19, 2008 Duke of Rouen (Surrey, UK) You have to spend a of of time getting the fit right to hear any real benefit in noise reduction. They do produce a higher quality sound, far better definition, than the cheap things that came supplied with my mp3 player but definitely lose a lot at the bottom end of the spectrum. I'm Ok with this because I use them mainly for spoken word, but music is not the experience I would have hoped for. Once you get the fitting right it does provide a noticeable difference in background noise. I use it in an office environment and outside work to cover combined background noise from motorway and generator. However, sometimes when you think you've got the fitting just right, a conversation starts up nearby and then all you can hear is that conversation. You then have to spend more time adjusting the fit. The short lead I like, less hassle, providing I'm wearing a shirt with breast pocket. And they are discrete. I did notice the noise from 'cable rub'. This can be overcome by sliding the rubber sleeve up so that it fits neatly under you chin keeping the wire tight. You probably look an idiot but it helps a lot. They do what they claim, just, but I don't believe they justify the price. I will keep on using them because they do allow you to listen at lower volume levels overall with greater clarity of sound. Bought from Amazon, ordered Monday evening, arrived by first class post with another item Wednesday morning, so Amazon gets 5 stars again.
Good headphones, poor reliability September 17, 2008 DF (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've just returned my second pair of these headphones to amazon.co.uk. When they work, they're great - good selection of pads so you can get a good fit and isolate yourself from outside sounds. Music sounds good and they work great with the iphone microphone cable from Shure if you have an iphone. HOWEVER, both of my pairs have developed the same fault - the sound became very faint in the right ear. Maybe I was unlucky, but I'm changing brand!
Great for classical September 9, 2008 Mr. Desmond Atkinson I use these earphones for listening solely to classical music. They provide an excellent sound across the range. Treble notes are clear and sharp without being shrill and the bass is punchy. They work very well across the board, with large choral works sounding suitably grand but solo instrumentals coming across very well also. My listening has been on both a Creative Zen V and on a Sony Ericsson K810i phone.
Hearing hidden details August 18, 2008 C. Saunders (Southampton, United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It takes a few days to appreciate these headphones and a bit of experimentation to select the best sleeve and position relative to the ear for you. However, after listening for while, it dawns on you how much you have been missing. I have re-learnt how to listen to music and have been forced to re-rip my music in to a higher bitrate as these headphones pick out all the flaws of a poor qualiy rip. I am hearing for the first time, the sound of a guitar string slightly hitting the fretboard, the sound of the artist taking a short breath before singing and the sound of the pianist's stool creaking as they lean to press the piano keys. These sounds are all in pieces of music that I would have previously considered to know inside out. I now get pleasure from the music and from the simple act of listening to it. Additionally, putting these headphones in your ear and playing music even at the lowest volume creates your own audio world where the music is centred around you with all other noises blocked out. I find them comfortable and discrete. I would emphasize that it is important to select the best sleeve and position relative to the ear for your needs to fully appreciate these headphones.
