5 out of 5 stars Alesis DM5   November 3, 2008
Robin Evans (UK)
The Alesis DM5 is in my opinion fantastic... ! My reason being that it is very similar to playing on a real drum kit, with the pads on the drums to the cymbals and the kick. It all feels brill ! Also it is well worth getting on to the Alesis Store and buying Surge cymbals to go with it, i havent got them myslef but they look quality and i will be getting them soon. Overall a really nice piece of equipment and ive had no problems just yet ! Good price as well (B.T.W it does not come with a Lead for the Snare drum or a pedal for the base drum so make sure you get those before)!

4 out of 5 stars amazing for the price!   October 16, 2008

I'm a student and I bought this a couple of weeks ago as I'm not allowed to set up my acoustic kit in the house im renting. Ideally I would have gone for a roland, but I needed something cheaper. This is fantastic for the price, much better quality than I was expecting, its very sturdy, has a good range of sounds and is incredibly easy to set up and connect. The only drawbacks are that it is quite noisy, and the hi-hat sounds and pedal are not as great as the rest of the kit, but for less than 300 its an absolute bargain, and well worth it if you practice a lot and need to keep noise to a minimum!

4 out of 5 stars Great piece of kit   August 7, 2008

I have been playing acoustic drums for about 8 years. I purchased this kit and was very pleased! The sounds are excellent and the feel of the kit is, again, excellent. The snare drum is dual zone and so does come with a trigger for rim shots. For the price, you won't be disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars Great kit for a project studio   July 4, 2008

I beg to differ with the first reviewer in this section, but there is a trigger for rim shots on the snare in the DM5 pro kit, which makes this kit all the better value for money. There are loads more sounds available than those in the 21 pre set kits, all you need to do is select, personalize and save the pieces as required. I have bought my Alesis for my home recording studio to program midi drum tracks to trigger my software drums such as BFD2 and EZ Drummer. On setting up the kit however, some of the on board samples in the DM5 pro module are so good that I will now consider using them. The surfaces are responsive enough to appeal to experienced drummers, albeit nothing can replace the real thing, and drum head tension can be adjusted to suit your individual playing style. Great value for money set up.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent entry level electronic drum kit   January 4, 2008

I've been in the market for an electronic drum kit for a while before buying this just before Christmas. Assembly is simple and the quality of the sampling is very good indeed. In fact, having tried out the yamaha and roland series, I actually prefer the sounds of the Alesis which don't have that 'synthesiser keyboard' drum sound due to a random variation feature the module adds (check out drum demos on youtube if you want to see what I mean about the Yamaha and Roland kits). Drum heads have good feel (much better than the rubber pads) and although not quite the feel of the Roland V-drum it's not noticable. A couple of limitations when it comes to the hi-hat feel and I might look into getting a real one if I start gigging with the kit; also the snare doesn't have a rim-shot trigger, so you'll need to configure another pad for that effect if you want it (easy enough to do). Top quality equipment at a bargain price, you won't be able to get this quality of kit and number of drum sounds without having to spend a lot more for incrementally minor enhancements (rim trigger, cymbals etc).
