Excellent tool for moving data to a new PC June 6, 2008 Phil (UK) When I bought a new PC and had large amounts of data to transfer from an old PC, this was the ideal tool to move the data across quickly. Old PCs have IDE hard disks which cannot be fitted (directly) to the SATA ports of new PCs, and you might not want to open the case of a new PC anyway for warranty reasons. The old PC had no ethernet port so it wasn't easy to network the two PCs, it also could not write DVDs which would be another way to move the data. So I simply removed the hard disk from the old machine and used this cable to plug it into the new PC. It immediately appears in the list of hard disks, and many GB of data can be transferred to the new PC very quickly. For transferring less than 4GB, it might be better to use a flash memory stick - but this is very slow on an old PC with USB1. The build quality of the cable is adequate but not brilliant. Since other reviewers reported bad power supplies, I checked mine with a multimeter first - I found 12V and 5V between the pins on the Molex plug as expected. I also tested it with an old hard disk I didn't care about first! No problems at all. Overall, an excellent product at the price. I have not tested the SATA disk function.
Worked just as I wanted. April 8, 2008 Mr. Neil A. Nicol (England) I used this item to transfer data to and from a couple of SATA hard drives as I was upgrading my PVR box. Cheaper than buying a usb caddie and does exactly the same job.
Worked as described March 12, 2008 Bill (UK) As the title says it worked as described, I had no problems with the power supply or the micro plug. Have used it on an IDE hard drive to transfer files with no problems with windows seeing the drive. Very handy to have if, like me you do the occasional PC repair when a friend cries for help.
Does exactly what it says on the tin February 22, 2008 Scott Matthews (UK) I found this product extrememyl handy. Allows you to scan virtually all 2.5" and 3.5" IDE and SATA Hard Drives. OK so there are a few cables lying around while you do it but this is designed for tech use rather than permanently mounting a hard drive Absolutely no complaints and at this price a bargain, one for any tech tool box
