The Chillow is a unique personal cooling pad, only two centimetres thick. It does not use power and is allergy free. Chillow is invaluable for people who suffer from; hot flushes, fevers, night sweats, headaches, eczema, sunburn, muscle/joint pain, sporting injuries and many other conditions. Chillow is recognised by the migraine action association, the acne resource centre and many NHS Oncology units throughout the UK.
The Chillow is activated only once by simply filling it with water. The water is fully absorbed into the patented foam core. Once activated it will keep on working, so it's always ready for use when ever you need it.

According to all the promotional blurb the chillow sounds like the perfect answer to the age old problem of keeping your pillow cool, the trouble is it only works for a short amount of time.
Like others I have suffered from having to repeatedly turn over my warm pillow in bed until I finally fell asleep, and even if it meant spending 25 to have a nice cool pillow it would have been money well spent. And for the first 15 minutes the chillow does everything it promises, the trouble is after 15 minutes the chillow soon takes on your body temperature and rapidly turns from a cool soothing pillow into a warm sweaty sticky plastic sheet which is far more uncomfortable than a warm pillow would ever be. On two occasions I have even woken up in the middle of the night boiling hot and with a splitting headache as I have overheated while asleep on the chillow.
For short term use on sprains, headaches, hot flushes, back pain, etc... the chillow probably works quite well, but for using a method to keep your head cool while sleeping it is a complete and utter waste of money.
Taking into account that all the chillow is actually made of is a 10mm thick plastic pillow filled with a sheet of foam to which you add 3.3 pints of water, I decided to make my own.
I bought a rubberised inflatable camping pillow from an online camping retailer for 2.99 (the old style square type, red on one side blue on the other), a small funnel for 99p. Filled the pillow with water using the small funnel, and now I have a water filled pillow that stays cool for about 8 hours, from the moment my head hits the pillow to the time I wake up. I have never slept better in all my life and my 'homemade chillow' only cost me 3.98!

Personally I think buying one of these pillows is a waste of money. Reasons why I think this:
1. The stopper for the water has fallen out on more than 1 occassion - soaking the bed/floor with water
2. The pillow sticks to your face at night if you use it as you're suppose to
3. It works for about 5 mins before heating up
4. If you let the water drain from it the sponge inside scrunches up and cannot be used again
5. Putting it in the fridge is not hygienic
If they fixed all these issues it would be worth the money, otherwise avoid it like the plague.

Total rip off. What they don't tell you is that you have to store this heavy pillow filled with water in the fridge to cool it down. It is also very difficult to fill with water in the first place. Its also uncomfortable, I used mine for 1 night and never again.

Like a lot of reviews, this is a short lived product. Does feel uncomfortable and smells of chemicals when you press your head against it and after a few weeks of use, the creases will cause leaks. After that the product is useless. It's a faulty product since it doesnt state that it will only last for a short time and claims to last for years. After emailing the company I received no reply and they are not interested in replacing the product or providing any customer service. It's a nice idea, but flawed and backed up by a poor customer response..

These are a fantastic product. Got sunburnt once...it was a nightmare to get to sleep and nothing would cool my back, but then remembered I had the chillow pillow! Laid that beneath my back and within 5 mins I was fast asleep.
One of my cats (when she was very ill) would find great comfort in sleeping on it (though the manufacturers advise against this because of the sharp claws.) However, despite this I would have paid anything to make sure my poorly cat was comfortable.
I have also used it on my knee underneath the laptop. It ensures that the laptop stays cool and therefore doesn't overheat the fan with long usage, which in turn gives the battery longer life.
The only downside is that I wish I could empty it and take it away with me on holiday abroad. It does weigh quite heavy once filled with water.
These may seem expensive but I would wholeheartedly recommend them. When you need cooling during a hot and humid night you would pay anything to get a good nights sleep...so buy one today. It will be money worth spent.
