there are plenty of secrets May 8, 2008 jeffers (uk) cheng man ching taught westerners differently from chinese students. The personality cults in tai chi are legion. The book's not about tai chi btw it's about the man.
Practice with a Master February 7, 2008 J. Haines (UK) Wolfe Lowenthal shares his insights and experiences of learning from one of the few Grandmasters of Tai Chi in the 20th Century. His writing is informative and heartfelt, and he explores issues that many students face as their practice deepens.
Living tai chi! April 5, 2005 Gursharan Kooner (UK) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
Don't get this book if your looking to learn tai chi. This book is about Cheng Man-ch'ing, who was a Master of tai chi and his students are well known through out the world. The book shows us glimpes into his life style. Sometimes there are a few little tips which can help you improve your tai chi. Get this book if you wish to know more about a man who did more than practise tai chi, but went on to live it! Hope I helped. Take care!
Adds Depth to One's Practice April 3, 2005 Paul Dunkley (United Kingdom) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a personal account of one man's experiences which helps to relate to the practice of the short form Prof Cheng Man-ching is accredited with creating. If you are serious about taking your practice of the short form to a deeper level, then this book and its sequel Gateway to the Miraculous are necessary to enable you to see what it is all about and where it should take you. It is a heartfelt commentary rather than an instructional book, but if you are already a student of Taichi with a good teacher, then you will find both books a treasure, which you will relate back to as you progress. Enjoy!
Tired of only photos? June 3, 2003 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have read a lot of books about taichi chuan. Mos of them only have pictures and explanations of the five elements and the ying yang etc etc. Too more tecnichs and no more. This book is about real live of a student of taichi, what happends in the mind, heart, physics and emotionals... etc. Experience and live.
