In the US considered the bible of pool playing January 13, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Robert Byrne is a columnist for Billiards Digest and in the United States he is considered one of, if not the best, billiards and pool teacher. This book is the one the US pros recommend first and the only one recommended if you can only afford one instructional book. Byrne takes you from cue selection to very hard shots and explains the use of English (spin). The diagrams are the best in print. I have two copies of this book--one to archive and one to spread out on my home pool table to study from and use the drills Byrne depicts. You simply cannot go wrong with this book. Plus the author has a sense of humor.

This book has helped me but can be very difficult for some begginers and the advanced people will find it beginnerish. i dont recomend this book to anyone. Dont Buy It.
Best pool instruction book available! May 28, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have played semi-pro pool for about 10 years. I give lessons on a weekly basis, and always recommend this book to my students.
Great for Intermediates! May 9, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Teriffic book for the player who knows how to shoot, but has not yet mastered the small details of the game. This book covers english-style pool very well. The only downside to the book, is that it focuses too much on 3-rail pool and other less-played games.
