I have been playing tennis for many years and condition training for it including weight training for a year. Although I have also been swimming three times a week for the past 3 years, tennis is my main sport so I was wondering if there were any specific weight training programs for tennis until I found this book. Previously, I got some general information from tennis condition training books. But I also needed specific tennis oriented weight training information because muscles need to be trained in different ways for different sports. I just completed reading this book and got very clear information about how I must weight train for tennis. The book clearly and briefly explains and demonstrates not only tennis specific weight training but also general principles, do's, don'ts, and safety instructions about weight training. It also explains how various weight training programs develop the muscles in different ways, what to eat, drink before and after training etc. There are 54 different types of weight training programs. The book is very informative, easy and enjoyable to read, good as a reference book. I just finished reading the book and I immediately discarded the weight training program that I had been using for the past 9 months. I immediately made and started applying a new program based on the programs and information in the book. I discovered from reading the book that as a tennis player I should have been doing endurance and power weight training before strength training. Instead I had been doing strength training before developing endurance. I should have been lifting light weights with many repetitions instead of heavy weights with few repetitions. One other major mistake in my program that the book made me see is that there was no variation in my program; I had been using the same program for the past 6 months which slowed my progress. Weight training programs must be changed every month ( after 12 to 16 sessions ) in order to work the same muscles in different ways, to prevent staleness and boredom. I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 though because there is one drawback ; although the photos demonstrating the exercises are clear, they're too small and in black and white. For a few of the exercises there are no photos, there are only explanations. I realize that if the photos had been larger and in color that would have driven up the book price. But it would have been much more informative and pleasurable to read.
