Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Highway is a unique, easy to fit in-car DAB digital radio that also enables you to listen to your iPod/MP3 player. Powered from the in-car power socket and easily attached to your windscreen with a removable flexible mount (just like sat nav) Highway receives DAB stations and transmits them to your car radio on a free FM frequency. Simply tune your car radio to the FM frequency shown on Highway?s display to listen to DAB or your iPod/MP3 player. DAB digital radio brings you more stations including BBC 7, BBC Five Live Sports Extra, Planet Rock and theJazz. National AM stations such as talkSPORT, Virgin and BBC Five Live are also broadcast in crisp, clear digital-quality DAB. Highway is packed with great, easy-to-use features such as ReVu? to pause and skip back through live DAB radio, quickSCAN to find free FM transmission frequencies, and 4 FM transmission presets (synchronize these with your car radio?s FM presets to make avoiding interference a breeze). You can even take Highway from the car when your journey?s over and carry on listening using headphones*. * Headphones not included. Whether you want to enjoy the digital stations in-car that you do at home, listen to your iPod/MP3 player on the move, or just discover DAB, Highway brings a lot more entertainment to your journey.

5 out of 5 stars The absolute business !!   July 24, 2008
A. J. Sudworth (UK)
I have a DAB radio at home and wanted to get stations like Planet Rock in the car. This avoids the need for an expensive upgrade.
It was simplicity itself to set up. Ariel went on the windscreen no problem, plugged in the unit which then tuned itself, and then recommended the best frequency for the unit to use on the radio. I stored that and then pressed the preset Planet Rock station - so from start to AC/DC pumping out was 5 minutes - tops !
The sound quality is excellent and in the Cardiff area the DAB signal is full strength so I've got over 45 stations ..
And the absolute bonus is that I can also plug my iPOD into the unit and the sound quality as opposed to my previous FM transmitter is the absolute business
I certainly would recommend this piece of kit

5 out of 5 stars Superb In-Car DAB unit   July 22, 2008
Mr. Trevor Davis (London, England)
Having read the adverse reports as well as the good ones, I decided to purchase this unit. After all, it is very cheap at Amazon.
As usual Amazon delivered before the estimated despatch date.

Quick and very easy to set up and go.
Unobtrusive aerial that sticks to the screen. The aerial lead can be tucked away so you don't notice it.
Sturdy bracket that suctions to the screen, so the unit can be placed where it's convenient for you.
Sure, the power is via the cigarette lighter, but it is the easiest way. I am fortunate that I have an Aux input socket, so was able to get a lead from Maplins, and do away with the need to use the FM band.
However it does mean that I have another trailing lead.
I'm not bothered about the leads, as there's always a way to make them as unobtrusive as possible.

So far the results from the Highway are superb, and well worth the inconvenience of having the leads trailing.
I live to the West of London, and ALL stations are clear and sound amazing.
I am so happy with this purchase that I would recommend it to anyone.
I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever.
I'm driving to Manchester at the weekend, so will see what happens on a 200 mile trip.
The unit becomes a portable dab on removal from the car. Again it sounds great, even with a cheap pair of earphones
What more could a body want for 55.00

Absolutely amazing !!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent piece of kit   July 19, 2008
M. Pears (UK)
It was so easy to install and tune. Sound is great after initial crackle but that was cured by going to another FM band. I haven't had any problems yet with loss of signal but I haven't travelled away from Leicester since I fitted it.
It's so good to be able to listen to Virgin in the car I'd definitely reccommend it to anyone.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing   July 15, 2008

We have a couple of Pure DAB radios in the house (and a Bose which is fabulous) so I was really looking forward to getting the Pure Highway.

If you want DAB for the car don't buy this.

The build quality is poor, on my example the power connector did not fit properly and the unit would not stay powered on for more than a few seconds - useless.

The design of the device is poor - it suggests you wrap the excess antenna wire around the windscreen mount meaning you can't remove the mount when you leave the car. The connectors are all on the left side of the device where you can see them.

I can't comment on the sound quality - I never actually got to hear it because it wouldn't stay powered long enough.

In all, a dissapointing product from Pure.

It's on it's way back to Amazon and I'll be geting a refund.

3 out of 5 stars Not necessarily all things to all people   July 14, 2008
Dr. M. H. Goldman (London)
I agree with all the other reviews of this beast, in that it is dead easy to set up and intuitive. The super saver delivery had it arrive in a couple of working days which was great.
Because I use a number of cars, I did not want to install the window aerial permanently, so it is currently draped over the floors of my car. Similarly, I did not want it on display.
Now, it may be because of the aerial thing, but on the other hand, the reception is full blast, but the FM transmit to ones own car radio is less than perfect.
I drive around London each day through north and east London. Many of you will know that there are many unofficial FM transmitters serving dubious audiences. The problem is that the unit will not find an empty frequency, and even when it does, a mile or so down the road, it is in competition, or what is free in the morning is not in the evening. I eventually gave up and plugged into my audio input, and that now works a treat.
(Or am I just plain wrong about not mounting the aerial on the window???)
The radio works very well, but I am loath to mount it and unmount it each time I do a journey: a discreet unit would be so much more use.
