I finally believe in noise-cancelling headphone October 1, 2008 m9525 (UK) I work in Bermuda Triangle. I seriously mean it. The position that attracks most noise at the office. Four loud colleges surround me, a bit far a group of happy inconsiderate junior lot that said they need to talk all the time for high collaboration, next to the toilet, main door, and kitchen. Oh, yeah, just several walk from a meeting room. Worse yet, my job requires my brain to think. Just a standard headphone with full volume of loudest Bon Jovi music didn't help... Toughest ear-muff didn't help either. They just either hurt my ear or brought me headache. I have a very sensitive ear, used to be in choir and like music a lot. It was just miserable... Two days ago, with excellent service from Amazon, I received this. Putting a baterry, even before I turned any music, I felt the noise was getting less. When the music on, it was not just I was suddenly in my own world, it also delivered an excellent sound of music. I didn't have to turn the music volume loud enough to bring me brain cancer. It is just brilliant!
Don't risk them September 25, 2008 J. Murdoch (Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered a set of these and when I opened the package was very impressed by what looks like a quality piece of kit. NC worked well and sound from my Ipod was fine for about twenty minutes. Then a very bad low frequency rumble started which verged on the painful. Thinking this was a one off I returned them and having convinced my brother in law to part with the cash I re-ordered two pairs. The second batch have just turned up and are be repackaged as I type. The rumble is there again and we are not opening the third pair to see if they are the same. Do a google search for "mdr nc60 rumble" and you'll see I am not alone in this problem although its only 167 hits it's 167 to many for me. It's a pity as they look, feel and sound great when they work. But I'm not risking number 3 set. Back they go and I'll try something else.
I love it September 18, 2008 Mr. K. Raemdonck (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I spent quite some time selecting these phones and I have to say, it was time well spent. They work brilliantly. They are much better than any in-ear phones I have had in the past. They are more comfortable, you don't have to stuff them 10cm into your ear to get result. The battery goes into one of the ear cups, so you don't have an annoying battery holder hanging somewhere like with alot of other of these type of head phones. One thing I did notice, though you can use these without turning on the noise cancelling, by doing so you do loose some of the crispness of the sound. Overall, if you do not want to spend almost 300 pounds on Bose and the likes (although I have only tried the Bose for 1 minute), this is in my opinion a safe and much cheaper choice.
Great! September 11, 2008 S. Hare (London) These are great headphones and well worth the money. I haven't taken them on a plane as yet but the noise cancelling function is very good at cutting out the loud people in my office! The sound quality is very good and you get great bass, even when they are relatively quiet. I would recommend spending the money for these
Superb August 7, 2008 Mr. David R. Coles (Devon, UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Put simply, brilliant. I had been looking for some good mid-range headphones for a while and had originally settled on the Bose around-ear. However, having heard that they could be temperamental, I decided to look else where. Then I found these Sonys - they looked great, were cheaper than the Bose pair, were noise cancelling and had recieved lots of good reviews - which they deserve. They are truly stunning. Songs sound beautifully fresh and crisp, they look gorgeous, the noise cancelling is great, they're comfortable, come with a nice carrying case... I could go on. Honestly, I could not have expected more. Highly recommended.
