 Great sound for acoustic - not suited for bass September 23, 2008

Looking for headphones with lots of bass for the likes of dance/trance music ? Then pass.
If you are listener of acoustic sounds, classical music, live acoustic performances, strings etc, then this might be what you are looking for. Crystal clear sound is what you'll get, almost like being at the concert yourself... it sounded that clear to me.
Comparing the Ultimate Ears with my previous set of Sennheiser, which I bought from Currys, the Sennheiser had much more bass driven sounds which is more suited for hard dance/trance music.
I found the buds not to be suitable for my ears as it did not 'suck' into my ears and vacuum sealed. The set comes with a wide selection of bud sizes and fittings all in a very pleasing metal casing. The buds are easy to exchange.
I couldn't and still can't get the earphones to fit my ears properly.
However, it may depend in your idea of comfort.
The headphones has a peculiar way that it should be fitted with the cable wraped over one's ears, and not in the conventional way where it just hangs from your ears.
Overall build and durability of the headphones and cabling are excellent. It came across as durable and sturdy.
RATING: 3 stars, not because I thought these are bad, but because I was looking for bass driven in-ear headphones.

For nearlly a year I had been using my dads Sennheiser active cancelling PX300's. The day he took them back I knew returning to the standard iPod one's was not an option, and now not even headphones in the 30 price range would do. That was the point I went looking for a slightly more expensive headset, and on finding these I knew they would be worth a look.
For anyone who has just got them and thinks they are not worth the 50 you've just forked out, I implore you to try all the buds, because it was not until I added the disposable foam tips, did I realise what Ultimate Ears ment when they say that you'll hear music like you've never heard it before. These headphones are truely fabulous, thankyou Jerry Harvey (founder of Ultimat Ears in 1995)!!!

I got a pair of these to use with my iPod as the ones provided are awful. On receipt I opened the box and my thoughts were that they looked good and as a little bonus they came with a solid carry case. I adjusted them to fit around and in my ears but they required a few minor tweaks to get just right,they provide the various ear buds to suit in the box.
You will know when you have got it right as they sit so comfortably you do not realize you are wearing them and the sound is absolutely amazing.

I have owned:
Sennheiser CX95 - Not great isolation, does have good sound quality although does not sparkle in one particular area and the cord is annoyingly long
Sennheiser CX300 - Very good cheap headphones for approximately 18 (do not buy fakes) although can sound harsh after long periods of listening.
Sony MDR-v500DJ - Not practical for portable use (great build quality, those complaining must have bought fakes)
Sennheiser HD280pro - Not practical for portable use
Sony MDR-EX32 - Good sound range not very loud and not good for isolating
Shure SE100 - Uncomfortable fit and the cable splitter jack weighs it down making it completely useless as the earphonesc constantly fall out of your ears.
I was on the quest for a decent pair of earphones/headphones to match with my IPOD Classic, I have tried all of the above and have found dissapointment in one way or another. My final pair of choice and hopes pinned upon Ultimate Ears Superfi Studio 3 otherwise I would settle for the CX300's. My requirements are simple a good sound isolating headphone to use on the tube journey to work. The headphones should not sound like most closed headphones i.e. sounding claustrophobic. I was looking for a open soundscape to get lost in from all the hubbub the train journey brings. Straightaway I could tell these headphones were of high quality when I received the package. After opening the package I found the headphones have a sturdy build quality. They include a plush steel carry case, earphones, 5 varieties of earbuds and a cleaning tool. The frustrating part is to find the perfect earbud for your use. I have opted for the most smallest ones as they provide ample bass and block outside noise to a greater level. The earphones have a very open sound and remind me of my Grado SR-60 in sound. This is an astonishing achievement for a earphone of this size to achieve 80% near the sound of Grado's. The bass can be bit on the lightweight sound but when you need it, it is there. But, I think this is partly due to my ears being used to the CX300's. You can hear all instruments, vocals and the seperation is second to none. You can also replace the cable if you have managed to damage it (the build quality is very very good though). A great set of headphones and highly recommended I would love to see what the Super-fi 5's sound like but I don't think I could justify the price for those 115.

I was very happy with these earphones, they are very comfortable and the sound quality is very good. In fact I largely chose these earphones due to the good reviews they got on Amazon and elsewhere. However after 2 days of light use the RH earphone has started to malfunction, most of the time its a lot quieter than the left earphone and it crackles if you touch it. I have decided to get a refund as I think this is a build issue. Since discovering this fault I have looked on the internet and it would appear that this has happened to other people too.
