On the positive side, these headphones sound great and due to the in-ear fitting, they actually block out external noise much more effectively and then the noise cancelling technology is free to do its magic. I found other open ear noise-cancelling 'phones were fine for cancelling background "hum" but for things such as tube journeys etc where there are loud bangs and clatters they were useless.
The bad side is these only lasted me 3 months and I treated them like royalty so a definite marking down for durability.
I returned them to amazon but may give another set one more go... :)

This product description does not appear to state which Sony products these headphones can be used with. Is it safe to assume that it is any product? Can I use with My Sony Walkman Digital Music Player NW-S703F?

I have now had a set of these headphone for about 18 months and they are really effective.
On the train, they cancel out almost all background noise, even the announcements. On a plane, the reduce engine noise to almost nothing. In fact, at night on a plane, I tend to just switch them on and have them plugged into nothing as they work as wonderful electronic ear plugs to prevent the noise of all those crying babies that people seem to bring on board with them ;-)
Why only four star? After a while, as the seal on your ear is just so good, they do tend to get a sweaty inside. Apart from that, excellent.
