Quality Product, Quality Service, Returning Customer August 20, 2008 S. M. Harris To sum up these head phones is simple, once you have owned or used a pair you will find it hard to listen to music through any other headphones, they literally make other headphones seem laughable. before these i had the old e series headphons by shure and they were great. it took me a while to buy these, the cost is high, but they really are worth it, i believe there is a two or three year warranty and when mine developed a fault i was sent replacements almost instantaneously, not refurbs but brand new ones and this is kind of important when you buy such an expensive product. Like one of the other reviews take a while to fiddle with the ear pieces because with the right one you will really enjoy the product. these are a must buy for anyone who enjoys good quality music and listens regularly.
Money Well Spent!! February 5, 2008 'Spud' Harris (Stourport) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
If you are reading this review you probably already have a good idea that these phones are special. They are indeed special, read on!! Ok, I'm here again with yet another review on earphones but unlike the other reviews I think unless someone buys me Westones new Triple version of the UM1/2 as a gift I will not be reviewing any more in the near future. Why?, because I believe these are as good as it gets! I can make direct comparisons between these and their nearest rival the Ultimate Ears Triple Fi's because for a time I had both. The Triples I bought 5 months ago and loved to bits but then I was bought the SE530's by Santa this year and really couldn't justify 500 worth of phones so I spent a while deciding which I liked more with a view to waving one goodbye. Let me tell you this was a tough decision because both sets shine but in different ways. The Triple Fi's have an instantly likeable warm, wide soundstage, robust deep lows and very detailed highs. I loved them the moment I put them in. The Shures were different, we fell in love over a period of time. To begin with I couldn't get the right seal (lacking base). So initially I was dissapointed as I had high hopes after reading other reviews. I knew they were good but try as I might I couldn't get an acoustic seal, so I went back onto reviews and blogs for a couple of hours and low and behold I had the answer. The secret to the seal is either custom molds instead of the generic tips (on order from Audiorelief) or the foam tips inserted correctly. Compress the foam tip and insert the phone whilst lightly pulling the ear up and back to open the canal, loose the ear and let the foam decompress for about 15 seconds and the outside world just dissapears. Then you can really hear the true quality of these phones. The detail and separation in all genres needs to be heard to be believed but don't bother with these unless you are listening to stuff ripped at either 256kbps or above. Ideally music should be in a lossless format to get the full benefit these have to offer. I use these with an 80gb ipod and a C&C box + Portable Amp and in all my years experience I do not beleive that portable listening can get any better than this. So I sadly waved goodbye to the Triple Fi's recently (thanks Dr. Willman for purchasing these) and I'll continue my beautiful love affair with the Shures (for now anyway.....)
Rediscover your Music with Shure January 7, 2008 Colin Sumby (Luxembourg) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having owned a pair of the excellent Shure E3C I was sceptical about the difference in performance versus price on the SE530. I was very quickly won over when I tried a friends set on my own iPod and listened to an old favourite or three. I was utterly astounded to hear, clearly, bits that I'd never noticed or heard before. Instrumentation became more detailed. Phrasing became clearer and well defined. After that I dropped a hint or two with my missus about Christams and presents and hey-presto! Santa turns up and leaves me a big metal box with Shure stamped on it. Since that fateful day I have been marevelling at how any old track can sound so brand new! My MP3 (extreme VBR) have been given a new lease of life and I'm a kid again listening to my music like it was the first time.
High End Sound without Compare August 28, 2007 J. P. Roberts (Peak District, UK) 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
If you've spent time (and oodles of cash) putting together a near reference quality sound system, you clearly appreciate high end sound.... Then you buy an iPod - and oh dear, it just doesn't cut it! Until that is, you buy a pair of these fabulous ear buds! I'm not promising reference quality sound (after all the Apple file format isn't quite CD quality), but it is a monumental improvement on anything else out there! If you use the lossless format though, it does get much better still. The sound is clear, natural, very well balanced and very detailed, particularly considering the size of the drivers. (This also applies to the base - if, however, you are looking for massive, dominating, overbearing base, then look elswhere!) If you can afford them, and if you appreciate high quality, high end sound - buy them! You won't be dissapointed! (NB: I find the PTH device a bit cumbersome, though thankfully you don't have to use it!)
