Nicely Made Radio For The Garden June 18, 2008 Andrew Moore (Cowes, Isle of Wight, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Just a short review to add a few observations about this radio: 1. Its certainly nicely made. I have left mine out in the garden and will be doing so to see if it can survive the weather and live up to its its 'Weatherproof' tag; 2. Only 4 preset buttons is a shame. There appears to be space for six, so it makes one wonder why they didn't add a couple more; 3. The sound is good and, so far, the DAB reception has been fine; 4. The rubber feet on the bottom of the unit mean that one can plonk it down on any surface safely; 5. After pressing the Power button, it takes about five seconds for the broadast to come through. My Pure One behaves like this. Strange. My bedroom Tivoli unit comes on virtually instantaneously. I find the "Pure pause" rather irratating but it wouldn't put me off buying another Pure unit. 6. I think Pure could have made the Oasis a bit more compact. It is a bit of a 'brick'. 7. The carrying handle on the top of the unit is very handy; 8. The LCD is virtually impossible to read in sunlight. I like this DAB unit but it is rather expensive. However, if it survives what the great British summer can throw at it, it should prove to be a worthwhile buy.
worth its weight in white gold. March 5, 2008 Andrew Holstead (WILTS ENGLAND) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
i use this dab radio every day on a building site. Its quite simply worth every penny. The sounds brilliant even when its turned up. Battery life lasts between 12-15 hours but i do charge it up every night. I plug my mp3 into it which also sounds good even though its mono. The bottom line is i have saved loads of money by not having to buy batteries and it does what pure say. By the way i have had my pure digital radio for about a year and a half. TOP MARKS.
I have got gadget love for this DAB and I am a lady January 24, 2008 Liz B (Ickenham, Hillingdon) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This radio is a friend to our home, well-designed and robust and you can take it anywhere. Since it is 'weatherproof' it is great to be able to have it in the bathroom and not worry about the damp. Because of the built-in battery pack you can either listen to it plugged in, or carry it around the house/garden. Nice and easy to use, neat controls, good sound for its size. Nice big handle on the top for carting it about. I reckon 15 hrs playing time on a fully-charged battery is about right. I did loads of research, there are hardly any DABs with built-in battery pack. Otherwise it looks like if you want a portable, you would quite likely be faffing about with batteries of funny sizes and/rechargers, or trying to buy a Chargepack which people seem to be saying aren't very good and also seem to be very hard to get hold of (maybe the two are connected.) This is not for you if you are looking for something little and light because it is chunky - it depends what you want. The charger lead is strangely weedy but it is not really a matter of any importance. You can also buy a gadget for charging it up in your car too if you want to take it away on a trip, plus it has a USB port.
Perfect for the bathroom September 15, 2007 R. G. More (Warwickshire, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Excellent radio, very toughly built, clear sound quality, good volume. Heavy & quite big as radio's go but then well worth it for the rechargable battery & waterproofing. Battery lasts and lasts- Maybe not quite as long as stated, but more than you could use in a day at the very least. I use it in the bathroom and only need charge it every couple of weeks. Great stylish design, simple to control. Recommended for use all around the house & garden, but bit heavy to be carried any distance on a regular basis.
Sturdy Contender July 23, 2007 Trevor Thompson (Bristol UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Had Oasis since Xmas 2006 so got to know its strengths and weaknesses. This was my first DAB and it's really ignited my interest in radio listening. The sound quality on the Oasis is superb especially for the spoken word as is the sound volume and "reach". The controls are simple and elegant and it really is tough. The handle for instance is an integral part of the housing so no moving parts to bust. It is great that the batteries charge "in house" and it is very comfortable with a shower - which is good bec I often use it on an allotment (apparently they don't like to be submerged - though it was dropped in a pond without complaint). The downsides are that it is pretty darn heavy and the battery lasts only 6-7 hours and takes a night to charge. Not one to take on a camping trip. A radio-alarm would be fab. There are only 5 presets - 7+ would be better (though it would clutter the panel). The RDS scroll is very slow - annoying to read - not sure if that is within control of Pure. The bugger flashes when charging, which is a pain at the bedside. The rubber flanges on the bottom have come off and required sticking down. If you'd get use out of the weatherproofing it is a great buy and the sound quality is better than others I've heard in same price bracket. It's a cool and sturdy contender in the DAB market.
