5 out of 5 stars On linux   August 22, 2008
Balazs Dianiska (UK)
Although I ordered this mouse for gaming and home use, when the package arrived to the office I could not stand opening it and trying it immediately. It came via second class post, the packaging had a basic padded envelope, and the standard box of the mouse. It contained manuals, install CD and the mouse itself.

One of the first things I noticed was that the mouse has a really smooth run, thanks to the completely smooth plastic things on the bottom-front and bottom-end of this rat. The grab is comfortable, and big enough for my hand to sit comfortably. Its a real comfort after the slightly undersized mouse I had to use.

The middle button has a bit surprisingly strong resistance, but apart from that the feel is great.

Now for the biggest surprise of all: it works under Linux! Apart from one button with the window icon on it both the forward/back and the DPI increase/decrease buttons work as intended out of the box. I was using Ubuntu 8.04.1 (after the first fix for the Hardy Heron release) with 2.6.24-19-generic kernel.

Dmesg log for the mouse:
[168246.883929] usb 4-1: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2
[168247.062837] usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

5 out of 5 stars Hmm   August 13, 2008

The Logitech MX518 Optical gaming mouse doesnt look as good as others, but dont let that fool you.
I used to use plain microsoft mice, maybe dell but nothing that was made special for gaming.
I must say. as soon as you plug in the mouse you WILL feel how it glides,
I bought the mouse with a razer mantis mouse mat, they are an AMAZING pair and more importantly the mouse doesnt weigh much, so its not much of a hassle.

One of the main things i liked about it is that it is EXTREMELY comfortable.
You have buttons to change sensetivity, and you also have a button to change windows, it comes in VERY handy as unlike pressing alt + tab it shows the name of the window, not just the picture.

I must admin, when buying this mouse i wasnt sure, i thought it looked abit ugly and small, but it fits my hand perfectly, i find that this is by far the best mouse i have ever used. Worth EVERY penny you spend on it.

If you are not sure, then i say buy it. its AMAZING
Five stars, no question *****

4 out of 5 stars It's ok... won't change your world   August 6, 2008
Mr. Alexander Gibson
I just got this mouse to replace my Microsoft Laser Gaming Mouse 6000, whose mousewheel had been completely worn out. Initial thoughts: these mice are roughly the same size, although different shapes. I have teeny-tiny hands, and I would prefer it to be smaller. It's reasonable though.

The mousehweel is well placed, but clicking it is really hard for some reason. Luckily it has another little button which functions as a middle-click. The resolution switching buttons confuse me more than anything else. I can't seem to find a decent pointer speed right now, but I'm sure I will eventually.

The smaller side button is a little too far away for my short thumb, but bigger people might not have that problem. At any rate it's easier to reach than on the microsoft mouse.

In conclusion: meh. I'm starting to think a mouse is a mouse. If you're struggling to make a decision; let me reassure you that this mouse is pretty good. You probably won't be blown away, though

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   August 2, 2008
Mr. W. Awan (Space)
This mouse is excellent! I bought it to replace a generic laser mouse I have had for around a year now and I have to say it has increased my accuracy in FPS games! It's also sleek and smooth with a glossy top making it really comfortable to hold. Some people have said that if you have big hands it is not comfortable, well that is not entirely true. I have big hands and I find the mouse extremely comfortable. All in all highly recommended, also I have read in many places that some people moved to a Razer mouse and eventually came back to this one as it is apparently "the best gaming mouse ever". While I can't say that for certain I can say that even though it is an optical and NOT a laser mouse I would highly recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars No Mac Drivers...   July 29, 2008

No Mac Drivers, which is a shame 'cause the mouse is fantastic in Windows.

Can't believe it doesn't support OSX in this day and age, and with apple being so trendy (who doesn't have an ipod or an iphone?) - logitech really need to get this sorted. Mouse works as a boring basic mouse.

Oh and stupid horrible crap metallic paint effect makes it look cheap and nasty.

So waste of money for me as I'm on mac - could've just bought any old basic mouse.
