good rower but incompetent delivery September 27, 2008 anon 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Good rower but beware any item in this section that charges 29.99 for "white gloves delivery". You'll be called by someone saying they are "from amazon" (they are not) trying to get you to agree to unwanted delivery dates or to leave the package "in a shed" - this despite the fact that the 29 quid is meant to pay for installation. They won't give you a phone number but will try to get you "to call the depot" to arrange your own delivery. Duh! This will be repeated every day with each caller denying knowledge of the previous conversation. When your sanity cracks - as mine did after a week - you'll email amazon.co.uk who will then deny all knowledge of the previous calls. In this they are technically correct 'cos the "from amazon" calls are in fact from either the courier (HDNL) or a 3rd party call centre (Shop Direct). To their great credit Amazon did take up the cudgels at this point but still I got 3x calls "from amazon" each trying to get me to accept delivery on different dates. The final straw came when I was told - on an ansaphone message - that delivery would be the next day but the contact number wasn't staffed. Luckily the real amazon stepped in and it did finally arrive - after two weeks - on the day I had requested. If all of this sounds long winded I'll save you the various promises to deliver "on a saturday" when the next caller tells you they don't and the promised confirmatory emails from HDNL/Shop Direct that never arrived. I think I've lost so much weight sweating away night after night emailing Amazon that I don't now need to row quite so far for a while. Good luck with the rower but try to find another supplier that doesn't offer you "white glove" delivery. It isn't - more like the men in white coats will take you away as you lose the will to live.
