 Good product, but not without limitations September 23, 2008

I came across Gym Sticks a few months ago. I'm a personal trainer and a lot of my clients enjoy doing exercise outdoors so I opted for the Blue Gym stick as a lot of them are women.
The Gym Stick is excellent for basic exercises and comes with a booklet with instructions on how to perform various exercises effectively. I would note that the guidance on who the different colours are suitable for is obviously very vague (I'd opt for the black one as the best all-rounder). I often have to resist the exercises further for my clients to make them effective. Plus I would also say that they are fun to use as an alternative and effective if used outdoors where light and space saving equipment is a must, but for use indoors or for a proper work out they are obviously limited in the amount of resistance and variety of exercises you can perform if you want to be really specific.
For a simple but effective workout where space and weight are priority I would recommend the gym sticks. However if you're looking at them as an alternative to a weights session they can only offer so much.

I am normally very sceptical any piece of equipment that claims to offer a whole body workout but the widespread positive reviews of this product plus the research carried out by the manufacturers convinced me to give the Gymstick a try. I would say that I am relatively fit and tend to use the heavier settings on most gym equipment so, although I could not find one on Amazon, I managed to track down a Gold "super strong" version of the Gymstick. I have only used it for a few days so I cannot speak for its longevity but I am already very impressed with the range of exercises that are possible with the Gymstick and also the effectiveness of those exercises. If the resistance is not sufficient one simply winds the bands further around the stick increasing the intensity of the exercise. It is very simple but highly effective.
I would say that if the Gymstick is intended for use in a Gymstick workout class, e.g. Gymstick aerobics, then it is probably better to be conservative in the choice of Gymstick resistance level whereas if the intended use is more focused on strengthening and defining muscles, replacing free weights, I would be more ambitious in my selection of Gymstick resistance. As one other reviewer points out, the body gets used to the resistance level quite quickly and upgrading the resistance bands is not cheap.
Overall the Gymstick is a really great product, which I highly recommend. It is extremely lightweight, easy to store, and effective. What more could one want. I agree that it seems a little expensive for what one gets but this is in my mind warranted by the research that went into the product and the quality of the build.
I am tempted to buy a telescopic one for travelling but I normally travel with carry on luggage only and I am relatively sure that security would not allow it on the plane as they have refused to allow similar sized fibreglass tent poles on a flight. However, if you do travel with hold luggage, the telescopic Gymstick would be a great piece of equipment to keep the effects of all those holiday meals at bay.

This is a wonderfully handy piece of equipment - It really can give your body a great all over work-out and without the need to leave the house is very convenient. It comes with a sturdy bag to pack it away and a 75 minute instruction dvd and information about the product. So everything you need is within the purchase. There is also a very informative website at gymstick.co.uk, which details a number of workout plans that show you clearly through visual photographs how to do the exercises for the upper, middle and lower body depending which work out plan your looking at.
I have the black gymstick and find it comfortable to work with and at the same time it challenges me when I put the effort in. I highly recommend a gymstick to get yourself in tip top shape and build up your strength as it's done wonders for me personally.
The only negative thing I would have to say about the gymstick is the price which is why I have given this 4 stars instead of 5. I think 50- 60 is a bit much for your average person to pay for an exercise tool. I luckily managed to get one off ebay for a tenner that was second hand but in excellent and unused condition. I have since looked on ebay for friends but it appears no-one else is selling thier gymsticks, either that, or no-one has forked out the full price to get one. I think it's worth 25 tops. A cheaper price would probably make it more accessible to people and would see thier sales increase.
Regardless, it has worked wonders for me and I am well chuffed with my gymstick.

I have been using the Gymstick for about 6 months and have noticed the difference in my strength more than anything else. It has helped me tone up my abs a great deal and its great because the bands help you do most exercises that you do in the gym like sit ups or weights. The black one is probably better for women who exercise regularly as the resistance of the bands is quite strong but your body gets used to it the more repetitions you do of exercises. If you are new to the Gymstick its probably best to start on the Blue one. I recommend this tool to anyone who doesn't have the time to go to the gym as you can do pretty much all the exercises you would do in the gym anyway.It's a great all in one fitness tool because it helps you tone as you exercise which is great especially for women. I have since bought more as gifts for all my family and friends!!!

I have been using a Gymstick for about 6-8 months roughly 3-4 times a week and the result have been fantastic. Firstly it's such a light, easy and comfortable tool to use and it takes up no space at all in my flat. Secondly the Gymstick has such a wide range of exercises that can be done with the tool it has helped me to improve my strengths the most, and tone my body in particular my abs. I have used a few different exercise tools before and they have always been limited to something specific, this on the other hand is great it give you the chance to set your own limits and work out all of your body. I would recommend the Gymstick to anyone rooky or a seasoned pro, as it will meet your needs and cover pretty much everything you want to do. If you are considering this tool don't hesitate its much better than anything else you will find for the your home exercising.
