Brilliant product September 3, 2008 Mr. A. Joul (bradford uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you havent run for some time like me or your wanting to train more effectively then this product is well worth the money (and if its not for you then you will not have wasted alot!). I used to run at the pace my body could cope with, the down side was that i frequently "blew up" and had to stop to get my breath. Whereas this is not a bad thing i wanted to push myself harder but without stopping. By knowing my heart rate and when i will start to feel the effects of it being too high (you can set limits on the watch) i can prevent (by slowing down my pace) getting too out of breath and having to stop. This product acts as a watch (you keep your finger on the one button for three seconds to activate the light-otherwise it goes through the functions- its easy to use so dont be put off!), a stop watch and it tells you, your current heart rate, highest heart rate and average. The watch is comfortable even for those with thin wrists like me. The strap is also very comfy and easy to fit once you have done it a few times (You only have to moisten it slightly on the back for it to pick up your heart rate). One advantage that i didnt know about is that my gym has polar enabled equipment, so i can just wear the belt and the machines give me my heart rate without having to grip the sensors! Its a simple bit of kit but ask yourself why pay more?
Good Heart Rate May 28, 2008 Mr. R. J. A. Pettinger (Leeds, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Polar heart rate monitors are not the cheapest but, they offer good reliability and functionality. The FS1 is a good introduction level heart rate which provides the basic functions you need for training. Note: I have had a polar watch for 10 years, it needed the battery replacing so i took it to a bike shop who sent it off to Polar to get a new battery, I can't remember how much it cost, maybe 10
don't make my mistake; don't buy it!! April 19, 2008 G. E. Downie (Warwickshire, UK) 11 out of 20 found this review helpful
Polar heart rate monitors work by recording the tiny radio signal emitted from a belt that attaches around your chest, a bit like a cupless bra in effect. I bought a Polar device last year; it is excellent but the transmitter battery died and, since the battery is sealed in and irreplaceable, I was left with little choice but to buy a new transmiter strap for 30. Polar, when contacted, were exceptionally rude and arrogant in their reply to my suggestion that the battery should be a 5 stand-alone replacement item. The cost of spares is a rip-off! Don't buy you'll get stung when the batteries need replacing.
