A little dissapointing and one leaks October 12, 2008 Ekij (Northern Ireland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have the 30L bag, the dimensions stated in the product description (73cm * 33cm) are for the outside of the bag, including the rolled over bit at the top. The inside dimensions are closer to 56 * 26 (which is in fact 30L). The next thing to note about the bag are the four 6 * 2.5cm yellow pieces on the rear side of the bag. When I viewed the sellers picture I assumed they were reflective strips, but they aren't. They are small pieces of webbing, attached at the top and bottom but not in the middle to allow you to secure the bag. This is possibly because the bag lacks the usual 'D ring' at the top clip of the bag, or a strap at the bottom. The absence of the strap at the bottom can make extracting some items difficult, for instance when I use the bag as to transport my sleeping bag I want to be able to grab the sleeping bag in one hand and the bottom of the bag in the other to pull the two apart, without the strap on the bottom of the bag and given the glossy plastic it's made of it can be difficult to get a good grip on the bottom of the bag. The absence of this common bottom strap also makes it difficult to suspend the bag open and inverted to dry. This bag also closes differently from other dry bags I've encountered, rather than opening right at the top it opens a few cm down one side and the top folds over (a bit like an envelope). The initial fold is held in place by two short Velcro strips to stop the bag sliding as you roll the 'sealing' folds. The plastic it's made from is firm so the bag holds it's shape to some extent when empty, this may or may not be an advantage depending on the circumstances. To test the bag I filled the bath with water and submerged the bottom and sides of the bag keeping the top out of the water. I had expected the bag to pass this test as there really is no excuse for leakage of the seams. Unfortunately after 30 seconds I had a soup spoon of water at the bottom of the bag. Water test 2 consisted of closing (sealing) the bag, submerging it on its side and rolling it for 10 seconds. I expected some leakage on this test and sure enough there was a constant stream of (small) bubbles coming from the bag however when I opened it after the 10 seconds there was no (more) water in the bag, air was escaping but water was not getting in. Presumably if the test had continued eventually water would have entered the bag. I had purchased two of the 30L bags and when I tested the second bag it passed the first test (no leakage at the seams), and leaked a little air on the second. Presumably the first bag is faulty. I'll have to go through the considerable hassle of trying to return it.
