Best software for the Garmin 705 September 22, 2008 Mark Bennett (Macon, France) After reading the reviews of others can anyone comment on having tried the Memory Map software on the Garmin Edge 705? Does it integrate well? Does it cope well with off road routes such as cycle paths and canal tow paths? Does it update fast enough - it appears that the supplied sofware lags according to some reviews? And does the battery life live up to promise? I haven't bought one yet but am considering one and getting the Memory Map software for Europe - as I live in France. Thanks to anyone who can post a review with these questions answered.
Really bad navigation tool September 19, 2008 Jakub Jankowski (Crawley) I have my 705 now for 4 months with all accessories available.Garmin 705 is very good tool for measuring your heart rate, distance, speed, calories burnt and tracking your steps. However GPS funcion is weakest point of garmin edge 705, forget about prompt, accurate navigation under cloudy sky, it will loose signal or lead you one way in which half way through change its mind and tell you to turn back and go other way, this is incredible annoying and add extra 5 miles on every 30-40 miles.Even where sky is clear it will calculate route not efficient leading you the way which could be shorter about 1/3.Simply you cannot trust GPS navigation under Garmin Edge 705, best thing to do is to plan your journey on computer map and transfer it to your gps.It is way expensive tool to use it just for heart rate and calories burnt, I reccomend buy a map and spend 100 on device which calculate your heart rate and speed.I'm very dissapointed with Garmin Edge 705.
Great Sat nav cycle computer July 1, 2008 somebody (somewhere) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Top of the tree cycle computer and as long as you are using City Navigator maps a brilliant bike specific sat nav. You can also upload your own routes if you prefer. The info for the serious racing cyclist is incredible. Not cheap and the instructions are woeful for such a complex bit of kit - I think this is why there are a few negative reviews, Garmin just have not explained it very well. I purchased the unit with the road specific kit which included Maps. The battery life for long events is also very good.
Great product! June 22, 2008 W. BOWDEN (Chester, UK) 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I entered a new phase of cycling with my Edge 705. It is a fab 'must-have' for serious cyclists!
OK, to monitor heart and speed June 2, 2008 Chris Wren (UK) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
The mapping software is awfull, the routing between waypoints and tracks doesn't make sense. There is lag on the GPS, so will have passed turnings before you are notified. System doesn't seem to understand that you might want to ride offroad, even once you have set it in the options. Seems to ignore random waypoints, even though you can download them back off the unit to show correctly in the mapping software. Mapping software is difficult to use, compared to other software such as Memory Map. I couldn't not recommend this device at any price as it doesn't do even basic things correctly.
