Works well, although there is room for improvement. March 9, 2007 B. HALL (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
firstly - you have to choose your skype solution carefully. Not every solution will suite everyone. The M34 for Siemens phones lets you take/make skype calls on your normal home phones (I have SL565) and if you are like me and don't like being tied to your PC and carrying or keeping track of yet another dedicated skype handset, this is a really good solution. The incoming calls are easily router to your DECT phones and if you have more than one handset, skype calls can either be routed to a particular handset or all. the voice quality is fine. And you can also use the Skype software on your PC - this is very handy. The M34 integrates well with Skype 2.0 (supplied), although it is missing some of the new features of newer versions of skype software now available. My only complaint is that the outgoing handling is painfully cumbersome. You have to "dial" the skype adapter, then some a text software loads on the phone allowing you to select users and initiate calls. I found this to be slow and not always easy to work out who was online. This definitely requires some improvement. I think that Philips and other are onto a new idea of having the skype software embedded in the phone base station and allows better integration the skype software on the phones and eliminates the need for a PC to be involved, so I would not be surprised to see the M34 replaced by a new device in the near future. But for now it does allow you at add skype capability to your normal DECT setup without adding more handsets to your collection.
