Amazon.co.uk Review The first wireless Internet responsive robot, IR-V Online Robot is a cute little critter that children can enjoy surfing the Web with and relay messages to online. It can be combined with an interactive Web site offering lots of interactive stories and games and making it a great playmate for any young child. Featuring a technological device called WIT, standing for Wireless Interaction Technology, the little machine can be connected to your computer via a speaker cable which joins the robot to the headphone socket and then allows him or her to interact with the fun and games on the multimedia website. Simple to install--it requires to you sign up to the Web site and nothing more--the robot comes with a number of games and puzzles that can all be viewed from its small LCD display. If you're worried about your son or daughter sitting in front of the computer all day long, you shouldn't as IR-V can be enjoyed anywhere away from the computer and will happily talk, sing and dance the hind legs off a donkey in the process. This robot is aimed squarely at the younger children. It is advisable that you are prepared with a small Phillips screwdriver and four AA batteries to power the little robot. --Jason Denwood

A nice introduction to the internet for younger children December 28, 2001 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
If, like me, you are somewhat troubled by all the horror stories that one hears of pheadophiles lurking in childrens chat rooms, you could be forgiven for trying to keep your child away from the WWW. The truth though, is that the world is changing and the web will play a huge role in your childs life in the years to come. This little robot allows your child to practice using dads PC, using a mouse/keyboard, and using a browser, and the great thing is, he doesn't even know he's 'learning'!. The toy is reasonably well built, but it couldn't stand a high fall, so keep it in it's box when not in use. Also, the speech isn't as clear as it could be (or perhaps I'm getting old) my son had no trouble understanding him though. Watching him move around the desk and flash his eyelids and sing and dance was enough to keep ME entertained, never mind my son! And he really DOES interact with the ir-vonline web site. All in all, a great way to introduce your children to a computer/hand-eye co-oridnation, and the web in general. Oh, and one more thing, this toy is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper at amazon than it is in the high-street, so if you are thinking of taking the plunge, dust off your credit card now. Top marks to amazon on that one.
