Sceptical, but FAB!! January 23, 2008 Ms. H. L. Barber (Lincs) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We brought this for our little boy with his christmas money, who is 2,three in march.I was a little sceptical about spending this sort of money on something that could be great or not so.I saw it on offer and eventually decided to get it.Christmas day came we put in the batteries and everyday since,my boy has been on it.I can glady say its fab!He now knows most of his letters and all of his numbers so as far as the educational thing goes thats a 10 out of 10 for me.We also brought him the Thomas game which he loves,he sometimes struggles with the mouse but with abit of practice he'll be fine. The only thing i would say is to buy the adapter, were still on our first lot of batteries but it is definately cheaper in the long run.
My little boy loves it - not sure how long it will last January 15, 2008 Mrs. Bryony A. Shaw (Ely, Cambs) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this for my little boy who is nearly 4 for christmas - only paid 25 for it in argos but haven;t seen it as cheap as this again. It comes with plenty of stuff preloaded onto the computer without buying any games so don;t feel under any pressure to buy games for it straight away. We bought the art game for it as well but haven't really even looked at it yet as he is happy with the stuff already on there. Is set up to look like a proper desktop on the telly with a little inbox for email and 4 different games. 2 are using the mouse - you have a little dog that you can feed and pet and play with and there are 2 typing games. They all start off at the very basic level and then slowly get more and more involved which is great. You can set up profiles for different children and you have a guest setting which any visiting child can have a go on without messing up your childs game. The downsides as far as I can see atm - the mouse can seem a little sticky to me although my son doesn't complain. It also has quite a small mousemat attached but again - I thought this was going to be more of a problem than in is. The batteries in the main console don't last at all and we have now bought an adapter. We have had to take the batteries out once because we couldn't get it to turn off which makes me worry a bit that we are going to have glitches like this in the future. Time will tell tho I guess. All in all we are really pleased with it and I find it much better than the v smile which we also have. I feel he is learning much more and I think using a mouse and keyboard is going to be much more useful for him educationally in the future than being proficient with a joystick. All in all we are really pleased with it and have high hopes for it in the future. Hope to help.
Parts Missing January 8, 2008 Fraserallin (UK) 0 out of 7 found this review helpful
Looks like it to be a very good learning toy. But have discovered that the four games which are supposed to be supplied are missing.
Mixed feelings January 6, 2008 ian (shropshire. United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This product was purchased for our 3 yr old son for Christmas. We opened it on the afternoon of Christmas day and within minutes it was up and running. Simply install the batteries and connect to one of the inputs on the TV. The product has a little console which connects to a tv input and the keyboard is wireless and operates via infra red signal allowing the user to move around or sit further from the screen. Our 3 yr old was fascinated by it and loved being able to use his own keyboard and mouse. The keyboard is well laid out and the bright colours and feel made it easy for him to get to grips with from the start. The 'games' are self explanatory and easy to navigate through without having to traul through pages of instructions. Again within a short length of time our son was changing between games on his own using the mouse and keyboard with very little previous conception of computer use. There are two levels on the pre-installed games which allow them to progress. We loved it and would not have hesitated to recommend it EXCEPT: There was one major drawback in our experience however. On trying the product on a 37inch LCD tv, it was obvious the picture was quite inferior. It is best described as the sort of picture you get when enlarging a low pixeled photo- jagged edges which made it seem unsharp and we found ourselves 'straining' to try and focus it better. We immediately blamed the tv and tried it on a 15inch Lcd tv altering any tv settings which may better the picture. the outcome was similar but less obvious due to the smaller screen. On trying it on a relatives CRT tv, it wasnt too bad but still not as clear as you would wish a kids product to be. Due to this we actually decided to return our product for a refund. We were reluctant to do so as we thought the product in general was great and would give lots of hours of pleasure, but we didnt know what long terms effects it would have if our son was watching a poor quality picture and didnt want to take any chances. Just be aware of the size/type of tv it is being shown on.
Good educational toy January 6, 2008 Mr. I. Herd (Northern England) Good educational toy that keeps my daughter off my laptop computer and she thinks she's a big girl with her own computer. It keeps her amused for quite a while but at times she gets frustrated if she can't get it to do what she wants. Overall I think it will be value for money but I think there needs to be more choice of software for it. The only thing that bothers me is that whatever frequency it transmits on disables every one of my tele, sky, dvd remotes ! Anyone else have this problem ?
