Betty is back! January 8, 2009 Ms. RH Watson I was thrilled to receive my copy of Ugly Betty Season Two and I have not been disappointed. The writing is as sharp, witty and ironic as ever with the strong feel good thread of family binding it all together. I love everything about the series, from the often over-the-top characters to the fantastic attention to detail of the set design. The plot line is unpredictable, holding attention without fail and yet we always know that good will come in the end and family will pull through. And what an ending to the last episode! It just goes to prove that great entertainment need not always be about doom, gloom and violence. I'm looking forward to season three already!
Betty's still got it... November 4, 2008 Caitlin (Norfolk) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
First of all, I really can't compete with the first review on here, as it's fantastic, but I really want to praise Betty as well! Although season 2 doesn't have such a strong storyline as season 1, hey, it's still Betty! It's still as funny as ever, Marc and Amanda are still brilliant, whether they're together or off scheming by themselves. There are also some very good and unexpected twists in the story, so stay on your toes or you'll get confused! Although the season finale (what I mean by that is the last few episodes) is a bit disappointing, it's almost virtually impossible to go wrong with a bit of Betty. Overall, it's a great TV show that has given so many people all over the world the confidence to believe in themselves, and it's thoroughly enjoyable. I highly recommend it!
Incredibly Funny and Charming Comedy Series April 4, 2008 David Rush (Glasgow, Scotland) 38 out of 47 found this review helpful
Ugly Betty is easily one of the best comedy shows of recent years and despite winning various awards including Emmys and Golden Globes, is criminally unwatched by many viewers. The second series picks up exactly where the last one left off - the fate of Santos (Kevin Alejandro), Hilda's (Ana Ortiz) boyfriend is revealed, the true result of Daniel (Eric Mabius) and Alexis' (Rebecca Romijn) accident becomes clear and Wilhelmina (Vanessa Williams) is still plotting to marry Bradford and take over from Daniel as Editor of Mode - and is just as charming, bright, bubbly and melodramatic as ever. Ferrera cannot be beat as Betty, oozing with charm and appeal to create a truly lovable character who is very hard to dislike. Betty's relationship with Henry (Christopher Gorham) is explored throughout the series and the couple soon get together, becoming perhaps the sweetest lovebirds in recent television history. However, it soon becomes clear that their relationship may not be able to survive the drama of their respective lives. Claire Meade (Judith Light) is still on the run having escaped from prison and is determined to stop Wilhelmina from taking over Mode and perhaps the entire Meade Publications company, while Betty's Father Ignacio (Tony Plana). Ugly Betty is a bright, fun and extremely enjoyable comedy series that could be enjoyed by almost anyone with a good sense of humour. From the bitchy humour of the Mode building to the sarcastic wit of Christina (Ashley Jensen) and the sheer charm of Betty, the series is easy to love and very addictive. A great achievement in television which saw Ferrera winning three different awards for her role - the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series - Comedy, the Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series - this is not to be missed!
