Amazon.co.uk Review
Breaking up is hard to do--but that doesn't mean you can't have some belly laughs about it. Forgetting Sarah Marshall provides that rare treat: a romantic comedy about breakups, that is both romantic and funny. The laughs, especially from writer-star Jason Segel, are both heartfelt and raunchy, and the film is just unexpected enough that it keeps the viewer's attention till the end. The touches of producer Judd Apatow, who's famously retooled rom-coms to appeal to guys as much as women, are woven throughout the film, but Segel's script, reportedly based on many of his own experiences, is fresh and original. And adult. Forgetting Sarah Marshall features male genitalia laffs presented in unexpected and human ways (the nude breakup scene is played for giggles but also deep poignancy), and the language and sex scenes are strictly for grownups--and rightly so. Segel's script, and his performance as Peter, show that he understands the true nature of adult relationships, which provides the refreshing difference between this film and some of Apatow's other crude creations. The cast is sublime; Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) plays title character Sarah, a self-absorbed actress, and Russell Brand is her new British honey who accompanies her to--what are the chances?--the exact same Hawaiian resort as Peter, who's nursing his broken heart. Mila Kunis plays Rachel, the resort employee who gives Peter a reason to hope, and Paul Rudd is the surfing instructor who gives him his own brand of heartfelt advice ("When life gives you lemons, just say 'F--- the lemons' and bail," he says cheerily). The pacing is screwball, and the absurdities fly (a "Dracula" musical puppet show, and a surprisingly lovely Hawaiian version of "Nothing Compares 2 U"). Nothing the viewer will forget any time soon.--A.T. Hurley

3 out of 5 stars Not bad.   November 8, 2008

Found this movie likable, but not laugh out loud funny. Still entertaining enough, but in places it was quite predictable.
The lead, Jason Segel is good as the heartbroken Peter but the best thing about this movie is Russel Brand who basically stole the show. Normally i'm not a big fan of his but I thought he was brilliant here as the sex mad rock star. He definitely made this movie worth watching and he was funny at the right moments.
A watchable and often funny movie worth watching for the hilarious supporting cast.

2 out of 5 stars moderately amusing   October 25, 2008

This was a long awaited film on my must watch list and I must say it was quite funny. It wasn't hilarious, well maybe Russell Brad was but apart from that the film seemed to chunter along at a rather mediocre pace but it wasn't a particularly fantastic achievement. There were a couple of supposedly 'funny' penis scenes which I didn't much care for, I didn't find them relevant, expect maybe to contribute to the uncomfortable silence that had engulfed me when I started watching the film. It's not a bad film but it didn't really do much for me.

4 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Watch!   October 16, 2008

Forgetting Srah Marshall is a really funny account of one man's attempt to get over a break up with a conceited t.v actress.
As far as comedy's are concerned I'm generally not a fan, I mean movies intended to be funny generally aren't, but Forgetting Sarah Marshall manages to get a few laughs from its viewer (me at least). What's silly about the film is the lead character Peter's striking ability (at the start of the film) to pretty much have casual sex with anyone he wants, I'm not a very shallow person, but he's not that good looking & he kind of wallows in his own pretentiousness. The movie does raise a good few laughs & original gags, but if sex jokes aren't your thing then your probably better giving this a miss.
Russell Brand gives me yet another reason to like him (it was only last month that he went way up in my ranks for dissing the Jonas Brothers). His performance is good & he plays a sex-addicted rock star to the T (maybe because the character is pretty much what Brand used to be, only with a record deal.)
If you choose to watch this film (& I sincerely recommend you do) don't expect big laughs, or a great movie, it has many flaws, but hopefully you'll be able to see past that & just enjoy it for what it is.

1 out of 5 stars Disgusting, and that's not even mentioning Russell Brand...   October 9, 2008

Disgusting, and that's not even mentioning Russell Brand. Gross Nude scenes of the lead guy; you see his naked penis several times in full view as well as his butt, not to mention the obsene language. I turned it off after 10 minutes in disgust. Should be an 18 certificate and definitley NOT a family movie.
