Amazon.co.uk Review It seemed like a pretty good career move, and for the most part it was. Demi Moore will never top any rational list of great actresses, but as her career stalled in the mid-1990s she had enough internal fire and external physicality to be just right for her title role in G.I. Jane. Her character's name isn't Jane--it's Jordan O'Neil--but the fact that she lacks a penis makes her an immediate standout in her elite training squad of Navy SEALs. She's been recruited as the first female SEAL trainee through a series of backroom political manoeuvres, and must prove her military staying power against formidable odds--not the least of which is the abuse of a tyrannical master chief (Viggo Mortensen) who puts her through hell to improve her chances of success. Within the limitations of a glossy star vehicle, director Ridley Scott manages to incorporate the women-in-military issue with considerable impact, and Moore--along with her conspicuous breast enhancements and that memorable head-shaving scene--jumps into the role with everything she's got. Not a great movie by any means, but definitely a rousing crowd pleaser, and it's worth watching just to hear Moore shout the words "Suck my dick!" --Jeff Shannon

DEMI GOD October 24, 2007 Nevs (uk) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Even with a number one shaved head, Demi Moore is still a fox. Entered into elite SEAL training, she is beaten up, shot at and half drowned all to prove that the girls are as tough as the boys. After much hardship, she makes the grade and proves herself in a Libyan mission with flying colours. Good action scenes in places and good storyline.

Great film! July 31, 2007 Jezza (Sunny Sussex by the Sea) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have finally actually purchased this film - have seen it countless times when repeated on tv. Really good yarn and exhausting to watch - I always promise myself to get back to the gym after watching! Demi Moore is brilliant - tough & driven, you really want her to succeed. Girl Power!!!
Not as bad as critics said! May 5, 2004 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
Quite often when critics wrote a movie is bad, crap, silly, terrible or whatever, the reality is different. This movie is no exception. I quite enjoy to watch this movie, it has a bit of action, drama and politics, even though it's full of American patriotism. The major downside, though, is Demi Moore. In this movie, she turned like sort of 'man' with her bald head, hard muscles and remark 'Suck my ----!'. I guess people expect her to keep her feminity, stays strong during her SEAL training and succeeded at the end. She just doesn't relate to her female audiences. Overall, it is not an instant classic, but entertaining enough to keep me happy. I think Ridley Scott learnt his lesson and made 'Gladiator' as his next project.
Good Rainy Day Movie - Not just for us chicks! February 23, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
It isn't an absolutely fantastic movie, but who cares? And it's not really any sort of important statement on sexual politics and equality. Fair enough, it got a trashing at the box office, but i think that's because everyone assumed it was some sort of deranged feminist rant. But it's not... it's just good fun. It's a movie that has you rooting for Moore whether you want to or not, and you feel great when she manages to turn things around, and absolutely gutted when things are going wrong. It's a great ending too. It's maybe a bit predictable and 'gung-ho' and very 'U.S.A.A.O.K.', but that's the whole point - it doesn't have to be high brow and meaningful. I would definetly recommend it - watch it, and take it for what it is, and enjoy it... and I guarantee that you'll watch it again, and again! Because I loved it!
