Poor quality documentary, but great fights November 12, 2008 N. Thompson (Hull, England) This era of boxing has always been my favourite. After the great heavyweights of the 60's and 70s, such as Ali, Frazier, Norton, Forman etc, were winding down their careers, the focus of boxing came to the lower divisions (middleweight and welterweight). Roberto Duran, Thomas 'the Hitman' Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvelous Marvin Hagler were 4 great fighters in and around the same weight division. These great warriors fought each other over 3 different weight classes and set the boxing world alight and kept this sport in the mainstream. However, the problem with this documentary is that it is cheaply produced. The fights are covered well but this film is a world away from the fantastic 'Champions Forever' DVD. What this documentary needs is a soul. It needs interviews and it needs a more indepth look at the fighters and their careers. If your interesting in revisiting these classic contests, or if you were too young and you are just curious about this great era; then buy this DVD. Just dont be dissapointed at the cheap feel to the whole film.
True all stars April 7, 2008 Mr. S. Hewitt (kent uk) What a pleasure to be able to get this on dvd.My old video gave up the ghost a while ago. These four really were superstars, different titles at different weights, different styles and personalities.Buy this and watch an era sadly gone, because boxing fans will never be this lucky again.Sugar ray my personal favourite, his hand speed has to be seen to be believed.Sadly the "no mas " fight isnt here when leonard completely humiliated duran who couldnt get near him or lay a punch on him and gave up.Still a wonderful reminder to us all what a fantastic era this was.

A sublime slice of boxing history June 13, 2005 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
I'm delighted that this superb compilation of boxing's most exciting era has made it to dvd. The 1980s bore witness to arguably the most talent-rich, competitive middleweight division in living memory. You had the seemingly unstoppable bulldog Marvin Hagler, the olympic gold medal stylist & pin-up boy Sugar Ray Leonard, the lanky but explosive Thomas 'The Hitman' Hearns and the durable streetfighter Roberto 'Hands of stone' Duran. This dvd features lengthy highlights from the most important & exciting fights between these four legends including Hearns-Leonard 1 & 2, Leonard-Hagler, Hagler-Duran & Hearns-Duran, not to mention all three rounds from Hagler-Hearns. This last fight was an out and out war that people still talk about to this day, it really must be seen to be believed. If you love boxing then you simply must add this dvd to your collection. You won't regret it.
a good buy November 3, 2004 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
if you want to see the best mid weight boxers at their best watch this it is a pity nigel benn and eubank and co were not about as i dont think they would have lasted 3 rounds with these guys, you just dont see fighters like this any more.
