4 out of 5 stars A fabulous & moving film   October 28, 2008

The problem I have with a lot of gay/lesbian films is that they are often low budget, dodgy comedies or unrealistic (with a few notable exceptions, of course) - when I say 'unrealistic', I mean that I find it hard to relate to any of the characters. However, even though (thankfully) I don't have any personal experience or true grasp of the persecution that these characters in this film risked facing, I found that I really understood why they do/did what they did and got very caught up in the whole story.

Aimee & Jaguar really captures the horrors and dangers of living in Berlin whilst under the Nazi rule, even though you never really see any concentration camps or even any really graphic violence... But you get a real sense of the tensions in that society at the time.

What makes this film even more tragic is that it is a real life love story. I completely forgot about the subtitles and was sobbing by the end. I really recommend this film for anybody looking for a QUALITY film, and for anybody who is interested in LGBT/human rights/WW2 history/revolutionary or just likes a great love story.

The only thing I would say is that (because my TV is broken) I watched this on a laptop and I found that a lot of scenes are very dark and gloomy and I actually found it difficult to make out some scenes because of this. I assumed this was because it was on a computer screen but somebody else has mentioned that they also found the picture quality not great. The quality of the sets and shots are beautiful but this did detract a little. Perhaps it'd be better viewing it on a better quality screen??

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful thing......   April 25, 2008

This is an incredible, tender and at times heartbreaking film about two women who fall in love in wartime Berlin. This alone is a problem for Aimeé and Jaguar, as although Lesbianism was not illegal in Nazi Germany, women who were found to be lesbians could still be sent off to camps and treating just as brutally as any other prisoners, add to this the fact that Felice (Jaguar) is a member of the Jewish underground and you know that the course of true love cannot run smooth. Witty, touching thought-provoking, this excellent piece of cinema should take pride of place in any film-lovers collection. The only down side to this DVD is that the quality is not the best, as other reviewers have mentioned, it does look rather like an old VHS recording. But if you can put up with this tiny niggling factor, you'll be rewarded with a little gem of a film.

This movie should be in everybody's collection and if you still have not bought it, buy it now! One of the best stories ever, amazing acting and I still cannot forget that scene when Aimée is crying and screaming when the soldiers leave the house. Both of the ladies are stunning!

Recording quality is not so good but still you will be easily into the movie after a few minutes of watching..

I bought this and was all geared up to watch it! The reviews all said that it was great etc and averaged 5 stars. So this was an good indicator and off I went!!!
10 minutes in I had had enough. But I thought i ought to give it a chance so carried on.
20 minutes in and I had had more then enough.
30 mins in I was suicidal. I was only watching at this stage because I still needed to know why everybody else reviewed it so highly!
I dont know what it is about his film that gets on my nerves so much. Im usually not bothered by subtitles but this one got to me. Also I didnt like the style of filiming nor did I find the characters believeable. I also didnt like the setting either. I know that there are a lot of people out there who will disagree with me on this. But I do watch a lot of movies and this unfotunately ranks in my bottom 5. Sorry!!
But to make amends I will give it another go! If I change my mind ill let you know but dont hold your breath!(Now where did I put those pills?)

I watched this on Sunday night and it is still on my mind two days later. It's one of thoses films that stays with you. It takes you on an emotional journey, set in war torn Germany seeing the destruction caused by the British bombs was provocative enough but add into the mix Jewish Lesbians contantly staying one step ahead of the Nazi concentration camps and a Mia Farrow sorrowful look-alike German wife (Lilly) who doesn't love her soldier husband. 4 kids later and she blossoms when she is wooed by poetic letters from her nanny's lover, the sexy confident Felice; though she doesn't know they're from a she! They fall inlove with all the pain of two people coming to terms with love in their situation and in that climate of fear. Wow. I loved it. And I'm so envious of anyone who hasn't seen it who is about to, it's a cinematic treat.
