Amazon.co.uk Review Loosely based on the books by Cecily Von Ziegesar, Gossip Girl focuses on a privileged group of New York teenagers and their comparably glamorous social lives. When Serena van der Woodsen suddenly returns from boarding school with no explanation, it takes no time for tongues to start wagging. Cue "Gossip Girl", the voice behind the website gluing together all the characters in this entertaining show, who reports on what everyone in their social circle is up to. Nobody knows who is behind the site, but everyone pays attention to what it has to say. It is the website mechanic that gives Gossip Girl a new twist on its rival teen dramas. The cast, too, have plenty of punch, with the likes of Blake Lively (Serena), Leighton Meester (Blair) and Taylor Momsen (Jenny) just some of the highlights among a good ensemble.
Gossip Girl is ultimately a fun, enjoyable drama that knows its target audience and hits it very well. Slickly packaged and easy on the eye, it's a fine piece of television drama, and has enough here to suggest a long and successful run on our screens. --Jon Foster

YA..YOU KNOW WE LOVE YOU!!xo xo Gossip Girl's fan ;-P) October 14, 2008 *Fridi* 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Hi there, I'm old enough to remember Beverly Hills 90210,(to whom GG has been compared) and for me, it has never been such a fuzz...and by the way to tell the truth,I've never been too anxious to watch the whole series! However in years I've enjoyed many US series from an an euro perspective (cause I'm italian): Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill for the american idea of the posse of the good old friends, and the updated kind of "coming-to-an age" stories like... But even most, the shows based on a prevoius strong idea, usually sprung from a book, that in my opinion gives to it that "something" more to help it to become special: in this list for example there are Roswell, and especially Sex and the City! I think Gossip Girl is a sort of spin-off from SATC (with a glimpse from "The Devil wears Prada"too..), the flair of NY city everywhere, especially in the real locations, besides the glamour of fashion all over it, that really is an ispiration for trendsetters and common people everywhere..even the character of Chuck Bass reminds me of Mr Big in his unforgettable luxury black limo..and plus the character of Blair Waldorf,a modern fashion icon who literally dreams in lots of scenes of being Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday or especially Breakfast at Tiffany,of course..if you connect it to the pop-colour style of Sofia Coppola's film "Marie Antoinette", or to a mock of the Great Gatsby and the cliches of top models' world..basically you have it! By the way it works, that's the good news, because all in all it demonstrates to have a unique way of presenting the story, trhought the voyeristic eye of the omniscent character of the invisible Gossip Girl (who knows if in the end we will know who's behind the mask...), plus tons of witty humour and hot scenes to light the show, and well rounded protagonists to glue people to watch it like...forever! ;-D) My favourite is the couple of the funny "ex-villain" Chuck and the "fake princess" Blair, they have so much chemestry and tongue-in-the chick kind of dialogues together (it resambles a bit the couple of Seth and Summer from The O.C.: as a matter of fact it comes from one of the producer of GG too), that's a pleasure to follow their story arc..and for the rest, there is also the curiosity to see, like the characters of the two "Cinderella"-brothers from Brooklin, what's the rich city looks like, behind the curtain...so fasten your seat-belt and enjoy this funny and bumpy ride (you can get enough!!) Bye bye***

If you like a cocktail of expensive clothes and cars and fancy houses and endless partying and strife and human suffering mixed with humour, you'll enjoy Gossip Girl. Are rich teenage kids this bad? What makes this negative look on human relations palatable is the sumptuous beauty of everything you see - from the fine buildings of manhattan to the gorgeous outfits worn by Blair and the other girls. This is a tv series with a problem - remove Blair's character and the whole thing would be drab. She's the classiest, nastiest pretty girl since Joan Collins in Dynasty twenty years ago, and the centre of gravity of this whole damnable edifice. The first four episodes are pretty lame but stick with it, the episodes that follow are much better.I've heard some people say the OC was better but the OC was different because this is more about the competitive nature of rich families and their children than the story of a poor kid in one rich woman's world.Christina Ricci reads the actual book the tv series was based on for two hours in the bonus features. It is unsubtle listening to say the least.Other bonus features include a look at the clothes used in Gossip Girl and a couple of music videos which I think most people will not enjoy.

I first come across Gossip Girl when I saw a trailer on you tube! The first thing that made want to tune in from the trailer was the fact the show was created by Joel Schwarz - The man behind The OC and I'm totally obsessed with The OC and miss it so much! The second reason was I read that the show was narrated by Kristen Bell my favourite TV actress! For those who don't who is Kristen Bell is! She is the lead character on Veronica Mars! And I loved Veronica Mars so much too! Veronica Mars & The OC where both axed at the same time so I really had nothing to look forward to in the 2007-2008 season until I stumble across this! It was like having my 2 favourite shows in 1 show! So as soon as the pilot aired I was not left disappointed! For fans of The OC you will love this show as it pretty much the same concept but instead of a bunch of rich kids in Orange County we have a bunch of rich kids in New York! - No Spoilers - For those who are fans of The OC and think this maybe just an OC rip-off it really isn't as the characters are completely different even though the same concept might be there the storylines are totally different! For one the characters compare to The OC are much more loveable and just as funny! The main character Serena is a less depressing Marissa! And even though I love The OC I did find it could become depressing and dark at sometimes! I love the fact this maybe this is the 1st teen show that deals with depressing issue but is never depressing! If just pure fun and addictive to watch! This show if you haven't seen it is like a teen version of Sex & The City! I have to admit it is completely girlie but I have no shame! I love it - the fashion, the scenery and the storylines are some of the reason make this show a must watch! The actors are brilliant especially the main characters! Serena the loveable party girl who always looks great and Blair the queen bee of the high school! Who comes across as a b!tch but as the shows progress you see the deeper layers of Blair that makes her more loveable! And both portrayed by both actress brilliantly! Without giving the plot away the storylines are wonderful and make each episode addictive and the dialogue is so good there is some really witty one-liners! And each of the teen subjects dealt with in the show such as drug abuse, eating disorders etc are dealt with the greatest care and really well done by the producers and creators! The show is basically about a group of troubled teenagers of the upper east side of Manhattan basically the highest society in New York! The show is narrated through a internet blogger only known as Gossip Girl (hence the title)! But die fans will know that Gossip Girl is narrated by Veronica Mars - Kristen Bell! As far as the character of Gossip Girl goes we never see her or has yet to be reveal who she is! As far narrating goes Kristen Bell is absolutely brilliant! Kristen Bell voice is one of the most pleasurable to listen to! Gossip Girl apart from Desperate Housewives & Veronica Mars narrating has to be the best in TV history!! I love the witty one-liners & catchphrases like "You Know You Love Me" & "XOXO" etc Even though I get the pleasure of Kristen Bell narration it makes me really miss Veronica Mars as this show maybe be as good as the OC it's no Veronica Mars and it's not as clever and witty as Veronica Mars! Seriously Veronica will always be my favourite teen show and is the most intelligent! So this is why I get sad because I get to hear but not see Kristen Bell! Good thing she is in Heroes now! The other highlight in the show for me is the guest appearance of Michelle Trachtenberg. who played Dawn Summers - Buffy's little sister! And she is brilliant in the show! I really loved Buffy too! This show real fills The OC-Buffy-Veronica Mars hole for me! And like those 3 shows this has to go alongside it as one of the best teen shows! The other thing that I loved about this show it is like the TV version of Mean Girls! And I loved Mean Girls too! If you are a fan of TV Shows and Teen Movies this will be right up your street and easily a classic! But if you're not a fan of teen shows but like good shows like SATC & Housewives I would recommend this as well! You know you will love it, till next time xoxo!

I absolutely love gossip girl! its an amazing series, one which i keep watching again and again! buy it! one of the best things on tv! xoxo
Gossip Girl August 22, 2008 A. Pepler (UK) Having been a huge fan of the O.C. and of One Tree Hill I was impressed that directors managed to make a series that didnt have the same story lines as others. While keeping the bitchy girls, parties, fights, love stories etc etc this series provides a different kind of viewing using 'Gossip girl' to provide news of scandals in Manhattans Elite. A definate watch by all.
