I already knew this before purchasing, but it seems that another reviewer did not. When it says it will reach 7-10KM, this means on flat terrain with NOTHING in the way. I used these when travelling to and in France in a car convey of 3 cars.
It was extremely helpful and buying a second set and having them on the same channel works aswell, brilliant.
Having said this, I dropped one on the floor, perhaps from a height of 3 feet (max.) and it started crackling, but only when nobody was talking through it or to it. Strange, but slightly annoying. Fortunately, we had 4 when we only needed to use 3, so it worked out fine.
Seemed to have a long battery life, 5 or 6 hours and it was still working fine.

The only other (I assumed impartial) review of this product rated it so highly, I bought it without hesitation. Performance is, however, disappointing. It falls significantly short of the expectation created by the description "powerful, long-range". Tested over open countryside, we found that reception begins to break up at around 0.5km....which represents no real improvement over the old BT Freeway FM two-way radio we were planning to replace.

Ive owned the terrain 550 and latitude 100, but neither of them is as good as this. This unit has so many channels compared to the terrain and can be used at a greater distance then them units aswell.
These great devices are ideal for any holiday when a mobile phone just doesn't cut it, especially when phone bills are so so expensive abroad. I took these to the greek islands last week, and got excellent reception at no phone bill cost. Last year I paid over 300 phone bill cost when abroad with a group of friends. The wt87 screams instant, cheap, intriguingly interesting form of communication in UK and Abroad. Sometimes I use it to go to local shopping centres here at home aswell
I also give these two walkie talkies to my kids at home to play with and they were soon talking to each other from different parts of the house and the garden.
Despite hosting the basic functionalities of a walkie talkie these are actually very sophisticated pieces of kit with some very good functions.
Overall. These walkies not only look cute but they could seriously reduce your phone bill on holiday and be a practical part here at home in UK. With a 10km range, they're perfect for any holidays. Over and out.
