Misleading September 13, 2008 Mr. N. Adams (Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Never ever buy a Navman if you only want Britain & Ireland as updates for these areas are only available if you buy the whole of Europe so it costs the same as a new satnav to update. VERY SNEAKY !!!!!
Navman S30 3D Satellite Navigation Unit With UK & Ireland Mapping September 13, 2008 Ms. M. R. Deakin 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This sat nav is easy to set up and quick to get started, but I have found many of the routes are convoluted and time consuming, involving numerous unnecessary twists and turns(one example is a trip from NW to SE London which should have taken me around the north circular, attempting a route 'as the crow flies') - I have tried to arrange the settings to avoid this happening but no luck so far - satnav consistently comes up with a more difficult route than the AA routeplanner for example meaning I am only finding it useful to find actual addresses at the very end of a journey. It also takes considerable time to recalculate a back on track route particularly in built up areas, and often seems to struggle to locate my gps in the first instance. My partner has an older version of the same make of sat nav which seems to be markedly better.
A poor experience with the S30 September 10, 2008 RW (Sheffield, UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Good points... it looks nice. Bad points... maps out of date, inaccurate instructions, holds charge for oooh, not very long.... Sheffield City Centre road changes made about 8 years ago are not on there. Newer ones in place for 18 months also missing. Warnings of turns too late, IMO. Tried it on the school run. Map shows right turn, voice says left... map is correct, but like a good driver not looking at the map whilst driving I decide to follow the voice and what a merry chase... Have they got shares in petrol retailing? Apparently there's a new roundabout on Montgomery Road, Sheffield. Oddly, when I ignore this unit's advice to take the first left, instead driving straight through the middle of the 'ghostabout', my car remains undamaged. Apologies to the missus on that one as I laughed at her when she first told me and then decided to check it for myself as she was not best pleased with my mocking tone! Considering I've used this thing four times it's not a very good hit rate is it! Bought for my partner who has a hard-wired crapnav system. She dare not use it as it's lack of accuracy is confusing and has eroded her confidence... which is the opposite of our intention in buying it. Grrr, etc
What a great bit of kit August 26, 2008 Simon Emsley 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I wanted a simple, easy to use and intuative SAT NAV that my wife could use. Within 5 minutes she had typed in a (full) post code and calculated a route; prefect! Surely all a SAT Nav really needs is clear accurate maps, an ability to find the best route, and be easy to use. This is all 3.
Gimmick-free navigation August 26, 2008 Ms. S. Stennett 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I was looking for a hassle-free, no gimmick sat nav device. After researching and checking reviews on Amazon and other consumer sites, I decided to go for the Navman S30 3D. It did not disappoint. I opened the box, switched it on, typed in my destination (street address rather than postcode) and within 3 seconds it was giving me directions. Can't say fairer than that. The safety camera alerts are great, the volume is good (even when on the motorway with the stereo on loud) and the directions are clear and precise (e.g. in 300 yards take the 2nd exit at the roundabout onto [road]). So far it has navigated me around central Manchester, Bristol and Glastonbury without a hitch. The mapping software seems to be up to date, with no entry, one way roads, dual carriageways etc clearly marked. I took a couple of wrong turns on purpose and the route recalculation was really fast (less than 5 seconds). It didn't give the irritating "recalculating ... recalculating ... recalculating" announcement, just quietly got on with it. Excellent. The interface is intuitive and easy to use. The keypad for typing in addresses/etc may be fiddly for people with larger fingers. I have used all singing and all dancing sat nav devices before and, given the option I'd go for the Navman S30 3D again - it does exactly what it says on the tin and very fast too.
