navman s50 August 12, 2008 Mr. Gavin J. Mander (uk) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
i've recently bought a navman s50. i've found it to be reliable and very simple to use. i've not yet read the instruction manual and in all honesty there isn't much need for one. the sat nav itself calculated routes quickly and if you manage to take the wrong turn it redirects you with ease. the built in bluetooth handsfree set is great, no need to clutter your car with electronics. all in all a quality piece of kit for the price.
I'm Sold! July 22, 2008 Mr. R. A. Park (Aberdeen, Scotland) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Navman S50 Satellite Navigation Unit With UK & Ireland Mapping I bought this item back in April but really haven't had a chance to test it properly until last week when we went on holiday to Alnwick (from Aberdeen). Guided us perfectly there and back and also on trips to Holy Island, Bamburgh, Rothbury, The Metro Centre in Newcastle and to Durham with only one slight detour. Recalculation of route is very fast and it has lots of nice features. Very pleased! R. Park, Aberdeen
bluetooth not compatible February 24, 2008 J. M. Barnard-smith (cambridgeshire) 15 out of 20 found this review helpful
Brought this sat nav system because I wanted the bluetooth application for handsfree driving. I sat for ages waiting for the navman to connect with my phone (sony ericsson p1i) but this would not happen. Took the navman back the next day to replace it with a tomtom go 520 (albeit 50 more expensive) which connected to my phone in seconds. Apart from this the navman looks to be a ok nav system. Does feel cheap though.
Very nice piece of kit February 2, 2008 J. Caldwell (Northern Ireland) 38 out of 39 found this review helpful
First review on amazon but thought I should add a review for this product.. Got this little beauty for my dad at Christmas and it really is a great job. I wanted something that was easy to use and very intuitive. The gps works very well and recalculates routes very quickly should you not follow the recommended route. The added extras like speed camera database, Places of Interest, Nearest Fuel and Parking options make this a really nice product. Another important feature is the window mounting - this is so solid and strong. I had originally looked at the tom toms but so many people recommended the navman. I think the previous reviewer was a bit harsh so I would really recommend buying this product.
Very Mediocre November 3, 2007 Richard Ward (UK) 45 out of 51 found this review helpful
I bought one of these as my first satnav for my first car. Ive used my dads garmin c510 loads before i got this and i loved it, i genuinely felt confident just going out anywhere with the garmin it never fails to impress. The navman s50 is packed with features some of which arn't that great, the phone function requires you to reconnect and pair a device everytime you want to use it which takes a long time, i thought it would be more just have the bluetooth on your phone turned on and off it went but i was wrong. You end up not using it because its too much hassle to set up. I think they have tried to make this device too complicated, the user interface is ok but not great, sometimes quite complicated to find poi's near where you are. Also the touchscreen is not great, sometimes you press it and its fine but other times it registers the press and does nothing, sometimes the interface seems very slow. Its also just got me lost too many times, ive only had it a few days and its tried to take me down two dead ends and if your making lots of turns in inner city driving the screen takes a while to update. also the voice commands for a turn are very late. The best thing i can say about this satnav is the thing that attaches it to the windscreen very solid design!
