Garmin Nuvi 350T Review November 15, 2008 Paul M (UK) I replaced my Tom Tom 300 Go with the Garmin Nuvi 350T which has now irritated me so much I have already replaced it with a Tom Tom 530T. The Nuvi 350T forces you to accept a safety message each time you start it, then it doesn't look for satellites until after you have typed in the destination on a non-qwerty keyboard, swapping back and forth to a separate numeral keyboard as necessary, and then is slow to lock on. It gives verbal lane and roundabout exit information too late for safety, uses feet and not yards, does not change volume with speed, and doesn't show your actual speed or the distance to destination. Its display is not as clear as the Tom Tom and it doesn't show a diagram of the next junction on the main display. The sound is difficult to turn on and off, like most of the features several menu screens have to be used with buttons varying in position depending on the screen. The Tom Tom for example turns the sound off by three taps on the same part of the screen and back on by one tap on the useful junction diagram. The Nuvi traffic warning produces a red triangle on the screen, very helpful, but if you want to know what the problem is you have to tap the triangle which takes you to a list, tap the item on the list and then go to another screen. This is too distracting when driving. I am surprised the Nuvi gets good reviews.
99? September 19, 2008 scheissefuergehirn (Northants.UK) I bought this about two years ago for 230 and I am very happy with it. It has led me through European and British towns without fault. It would be nice if the speed was on the main screen and it does take its time to find the satellites on start up but at this price it is an absolute bargain.
Tom Tom killer! May 8, 2008 V. Patel (West Midlands, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Been using this for a good 6 months now and had no problems. Very useful to have the unit read out the actual road names as opposed to just blarting out "take the next left". You can actually navigate by voice alone when road names are read out. The only downside to this unit is the boot-up time, which can be a bit slow. But if you can live with that....
Excellent Sat Nav February 7, 2008 D. J. Wooldridge 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Excellent value for money, and having the street names announced as well is a very handy feature. The speed camera functions is very good, and adds more safety to the roads for everyone. More than pleased with this Sat Nav so far. I am pleased to recommend this product.
Interesting journeys! August 6, 2007 Ignite 17 out of 28 found this review helpful
Straight out of the box and onto the windscreen. Easy to set up - type in postcode destination and away you go! Tested on 60 mile journey from Bristol to Tragegar. All was well until uneven surface through roadworks caused unit to fall off the windscreen and onto the floor. Stuck back on and continued. Surprised at instruction to leave the main road about 10 miles short of Tradegar and head to the hills via a narrow lane. Two miles later I ignored the instruction to take a left up a dirt track -"recalculating" spluttered the Nuvi through the very poor speaker. On reaching the main road again I was instructed to take right turn - surprising, as I was fairly sure this would take me back towards Bristol. About 5 mile into the road works and clearly heading the wrong way I was greeted by a chequered flag - apparently I had arrived! Several more miles before I could turn around and type in the postcope again. This time the Nuvi didn't mention the left turn up the country road and I eventually arrived some 30 minutes later than originally predicted. Next day we took a trip to the Big Pit. Eventually arrived after doing several u-turns and deciding not to enter a few back yards in the locality. Strangely, as we were parking in the car park of the Big Pit there was no chequered flag and the Nuvi spluttered something about doing a U-turn! On the wasy back from the Big Pit we let the Nuvi have another go. This time it chose a single-track lane. 3-4 miles on this lane with, thankfully, no traffic coming the other way (probably hadn't seen a vehicle in years!) Almost succeeded in getting us to the main road but, unfortunately, the Nuvi didn't know (and the local authorities hadn't warned) that the last 200 yards of this lane no longer exists as it's been turned into a mud bath accessible by JCBs only! If you want a mystery tour in Wales this is the gadget for you! Looking forward to taking the Nuvi to France. No doubt we'll see parts that your average tourist doen't know exist.
