Very poor - again from Garmin July 6, 2008 J. Chapman (Lincoln UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
When it works it is fine warning you of stops and delays. It is just that the signal is so intermittent. One moment it is OK the next it is gone. Most mornings it takes 15-20 mins to get a signal and stopping the car can see you lose that for the same period. Repeated manual searches are the only way to get something. The signal is more reliable in Europe with good strength in France and Belgium but nothing in Lux and Western Germany. This is on a bike so there are no windscreen issues.
Don't buy Garmin May 30, 2008 Ironvills (UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
You know when your gut feeling tells you not to do something? Buying Garmin was mine after 6 happy years with Tomtom!!! I shouldn't have believed the sales hype! This product works part time, just like my Garmin satnav! What more can I say? they're cr*p products compared to ones I know and have used for years.
Do Not Buy October 30, 2007 C. MCCAFFREY (UK) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Totally useless product-worked once in six months, told me of queues on M6 Birmingham just as I joined them! As reported by another user: `Firstly, if you have a car with a heated windscreen, or heat reflected coating don't bother. The windscreen will block the FM signal making the unit worthless' That's all Mondeo drivers! Gamin's site will just try to sell you other subscriptions. Is there anyone in the UK who is satisfied with this product? Manufactures response would be nice.
A lot of promise but... August 16, 2007 Angry Monkeys (UK) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
I originally ordered one of these after I'd taken a trip that should have taken 2 hours, and it took closer to 5. When It arrived I eagerly connected it to my Nuvi 350 to see what happened. Straight away I saw a blue traffic icon appear on the main menu of the Nuvi, and I clicked it to see the traffic reports, and unfortunatly this was the start of the disappointment. No traffic messages at all. "Ok", I thought "I'll see how it goes tomorrow". My journey to work takes me on the A1, A406, A41 and M25, some of the busiest roads in the UK and in the middle of the coverage area I'd checked on the gamin web site (https://shop.garmin.com/fmtraffic/select_service_plan.asp?L=EN&CR=2&PR=2) No reports all the way to work. After contacting Garmin technical support I found there are a number of well known issues with the product. Firstly, if you have a car with a heated windscreen, or heat reflected coating don't bother. The windscreen will block the FM signal making the unit worthless. (I know most Mercs and Citroens are affected by this) Secondly, the unit is not a strong receiver. As there are very specific rules about the transmission power of radio signals in the UK, reception is a big problem. Other units that use Trafficmaster usually patch into the car's external aerial, so can receive a much weaker signal. Not these I'm afraid. Thirdly the coverage is not quite accurate. Whilst information is gathered about the roads in the coverage area, that is not a guarantee that information is broadcast in those areas. Checking a few forums soon showed that there are some big holes in the UK where you wont get any coverage. From what I've read if you are considering this unit go for the GTM 10 or 11 which will allow you to connect to another aerial. Even then be prepared for a little disappointment about the coverage you will get. I wish I could provide more information about the routing/ traffic avoidance capabilities of this product, but as it has still not received any messages I can't comment.
