review on 520 music gps September 17, 2008 D. Wood 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
well I bought one as we were taking our caravan to Scotland touring for a month, I bought it on the saturday as we were off on the Sunday morning, I set it for a campsite in Jedburgh and it took us right to the site entrance, warned me of several speed cams which were well hidden in tree cover (naughty speed cam) well I was towing my caravan lol then took me up to Edinburgh once again right to the site entrance, to cut a long story short it took me to the next site but commanded me to turn left into a tiny mudtrack lane (oops) when the site was actually on the opposite side of the road, fortunately i was going to fast to follow the instruction,we approached the entrance after going further down the road and doing the famous U Turn,So far so good finally we decided to stop dodging the rain drops hahaha and travelled down to Manchester were my poor GPS got a headache (my wife as well) approaching Oldham it went berserk and kept loosing itself (me to) afer 15 hectic minutes we finally got to the site where the bewildered owner worries as I kissed the damp grass. When we got home I plugged it into the desk charger and surprise surprise it Tontom home told me my maps were out of date ahhh Oldham again (Hic-ups)and I had missed the free 30 day update, then to add salt to the wound it asked me to pay 49-95p for the latest updates Grhhhhh, I rapidly complained to Tomtom and theyTomTom Go 520 Music Edition with UK Mapping were more than helpfull sent me some asprins and their Mr R.Terence arranged for the update to be downloaded by my computer (Applause). So all in It is a dam good product, but Caravan owners beware of small electronic devices seducing you into narrow dark lanes.
rubbish aftersales service do not buy a tom tom July 29, 2008 Mr. Shaun M. Kemp (uk) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was bought this tom tom as a birthday present & the battery does not last any more than 90 mins, so you constantly need to keep it plugged into the cigarette lighter. Tom Tom say the battery should last 4 hours. I have returned this unit back to Tom Tom 4 times now & it still is no better. they refuse to exchange it for a new one or refund the money. When I ring up they refuse to let me talk to a manager -their service is a absolute joke! I have been without it for about 8 weeks in total while they are supposedly repairing it. I have now given up on them & it & have thrown it in the bin where it belongs & am now looking for another make. I would not recommend anyone to buy one.TomTom Go 520 Music Edition with UK Mapping
Poor Bluetooth & Battery life June 2, 2008 F. Doherty (Edinburgh) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Upgraded to this model from my old original tomtom one, found a few issues: 1.Internal speaker is not as crisp or clear as the tomtom one 2.Battery life is 90 minutes at most 3.Bluetooth handsfree is a joke, even at full volume you can hardly hear the caller above road noise 4.On battery power, after about 40 minutes the speaker starts to crackle for no apparent reason, this is rectified by changing to external power 5.The new style suction mount is a joke, its tiny, has a habit of falling off and is pretty hard to position as there is no movable arm as such. The only reason I never gave this one star was because outwith these points above, its a typical, Tomtom unit, great maps, good up to date speedcams, easy to use and 99.5% accurate
I love this device! May 12, 2008 Jayzee33 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first ever satnav - and I am really happy with it!. The main thing is that if you should deviate from the route given, it will very quickly pick up on this, and recalculate the route, getting you back on track. Very useful if you are in an unfamiliar area. The spoken voice is certainly loud enough to hear out of the speaker on the satnav when on the motorway, although you can tune it in to your stereo and have it come out of your car speakers (or via an audio cable if you have an auxiliary socket in your car). It bleeps at you if you're driving too fast on a particular road (should you select it to) and warns you of upcoming speed cameras (again, should you select it to). Every time you connect it to your computer, you can update the information on it, so it is as up to date as you want it to be. If you notice an error on the TomTom map, you can even report and correct this with TomTom - including adding any missing points of interest that you feel should be on there. It is certainly worth taking the time to get to know this machine before you use it, as it will do an awful lot of stuff (including being used as an MP3 player or allowing you to make and receive calls on your mobile via bluetooth whilst driving). The battery life isn't so great so you will have to charge it quite soon after using it on a journey of a couple of hours, but it does come with a car charger so no real problems with this. I am really happy with my TomTom and, despite all the stories I have heard about inaccuracies of directions, it has been spot-on for me so far.
Don't buy if you have a Mac April 22, 2008 Steve Oddy (France) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Do not buy this product if you have a Mac as the support team only have Windows tools to fix problems. I bought a new map but after installing it the device is "unable to store settings: file access error". The only solution from TomTom is to plug the device into a Windows PC and run a Windows exe. So I'm stuck with a device that either won't work or works with an out-of-date map. AVOID.
