for the price, these are amazing headphones. the only problems being the sound leakege and the fact you can't put your head back whilst wearing them. otherwise there pretty perfect for the price.

3 out of 5 stars Great sound, but too uncomfortable   September 24, 2007

I have just received these headphones to replace a older pair of phillips neckband head phones, now if this was a rating for sound quality alone it would be 5 they are lovely, crisp and clear music with wonderful bass, BUT they are so uncomfortable for me that I am selling them to my brother who seems to have no discomfort while wearing, really disappointed but the spare covers are going on my old pair which are great quality too. So if you feel these phones will be fine go for it but if you have prior experience in uncomfortable phones id advise against these.

I bought these for use at my desk about 6 months ago (for a higher price) from a well known high street music retailer. Very good sound. To be frank I had no real complaints - but I gave them away as they leaked too much sound for use at work.

Construction might be considered a little flimsy and comfort is dependent on being amongst that lucky group for whom "all fits in one size". If your medium in at least one skull dimension and have reasonably average ears - you should be fine.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent sound quality...   February 11, 2007

These are terrific headphones. I've got through three pairs now. which tells it's own story. i.e they are a little delicate and after a while (1-2+ years) the wire connections start to fail. Still they are cheap to replace. The Bass is really nice, heavy and rounded. They leak sound a little so you need to be aware of that when at work etc..
I also own a pair of PMX 60's too. Again nice headphones but the Bass isn't as heavy. However they sit more gently on the ear so the 'phones don't feel quite as clamped to the head as the 40's do! I think I prefer the 40's over the 60's, but both are excellent if a little delicate hence only 4 stars!

I've gone through several sets of headphones, since I started using my ipod and have never been satisfied with the quality of any of them. Up until now, I have always gone for the earbud style, mainly because I always thought of head or neckband phones as being a bit cumbersome. How wrong I was, at least as far as the PMX 40'S are concerned. They are very comfortable and once you get used to the fact that you can't put your head back against a surface, they feel almost natural. The sound quality beats any earbud phones that I've used, hands down. A good dynamic range from crisp clear top end to deep smooth bottom end. They passed the deeeeep dub reggae bassline test, with flying colours. All in all, a quality product at an affordable price
