Product Description
Enjoy a new level of sound quality from your iPod with the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 speakers. The inMotion iM7 sound system is designed to produce a full-bodied sound that rivals that of traditional HiFi systems. Their compact design means they fit perfectly on your desktop, in your garden or on the beach. Sound produced by the built-in subwoofers and tweeters is phenomenal and the wireless remote control adapts the output at a distance. The iM7 speakers come with a long-lasting battery, but you can also plug the speakers into a mains socket for hours of uninterrupted music. The inMotion iM7 can even be synchronised to accommodate the latest generation of iPods (cable not included). The inMotion iM7 speaker system is the perfect companion for your iPod.

5 out of 5 stars Prodigy   July 2, 2008

After reading many reviews of these speakers i knew i had to give them a go. So i ordered them from amazon.co.uk and they arrived today. As soon as i took them out of the box they looked like they were going to be good. You had all the cradle types needed, and 5 different plug adaptors so if you want to take them to Korea or America or pretty much anywhere in the world, you can. Plus the speakers can also run off battries but i`m sure you already knew that. Anyway i plugged my new speakers in and attached my ipod classic, selected a track which i knew for certain would test these speakers. Mindfields by The Prodigy. Anyone who has heard this track knows that it has a very serious Bass note to it. And i was amazed that there was no distortion at all, even though i turned these speakers up seriously loud, so loud in fact that had i let the track finish im pretty sure my neighbours would have been round to complain. The only speakers that i have to compare the IM7 to is my 600watt Pioneer surround sound system which is amazing and i have to say the IM7 does a bloody good job against that. The IM7 cost me 125, had i bought it a few weeks ago it would have been 99 but to be honest i dont think there is anything on the market that can compare to these speakers for that price. And from what other owners are saying the IM7 sounds better than most of the more expensive speakers. So my advice is if you are thinking of getting these stop thinking and just bloody buy them!! You will not be disapointed.

5 out of 5 stars Really better than Bose? (Very good though)   May 26, 2008

We have the Bose SoundDock and bought the Altec Lansing inMotion for our daughter. This is a very good device with an impressive sound for its size. I also like the line-in and video connectors (haven't treid them though).
Comparing the SoundDock and the inMotion, the inMotion has much more bass - ideal for rock/pop etc. I wouldn't want to use it for classical music though. The Bose sounds more true - it doesn't amplify any part of the sound spectrum.
We like them both - it is really what you want to use them for. The AL inMotion is however very good value for money and can be throroughly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars How can the sound be this good?   May 18, 2008

Having checked out all of the main rivals to this dock, I can assure anyone looking that this thing is the dog's danglies.
The quality of sound particularly the rich bass and midtones make it a genuine rival to a good Hi-fi seperates system.
The big name in the field is the Bose which at 2 and a half times the price of the IM7 doesn't measure up. My son has the Bose sounddock which at similar volumes and bass levels buzzes and distorts like you wouldn't believe, where the IM7 is CRYSTAL.
Yes it's a bit weighty but mine lives in my kitchen permanently plugged in so portability isn't my issue, I am still amazed that anything this size can sound so huge.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best sounding iPod docks   May 14, 2008

It's a shame Altec Lansing have now discontinued this model- it's by far one of the best sounding iPod docks on the market and now at 99.99p it's an absolute steal!

The sound from this dock is amazing- it features separate mid range and tweeters on each channel and a separate side firing sub woofer with an additional passive woofer at the other end of the tube that works in a push-pull configuration to really enhance the lows.

This dock delivers really crisp, clean room filling sound with plenty of low end and it is very loud!!

Another plus is that you can also run this off 8 D cells so you can take it with you to the park, bbq- not the most portable ( weighs 10lbs with batteries!) but if going by car somewhere for the day then weight isn't really an issue.

This really can replace your stereo and sounds much much better than the more expensive Bose SoundDock

It works a treat with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

One note however- the s video and video outputs from the dock don't work with the new iPod Classics, Touch and iPhone as they require special DRM chipped cables to output video. But that's not really a downside for me- as I bought it for playing music. But if you have a gen 4 or older iPod then you can use this feature

You can also input any other MP3 player, PC etc using AUX in on the back

So to sum up. A great price, top notch build quality (lots of metal) stunning sound and looks amazing!

Buy and you won't be disappointed

5 out of 5 stars Better than Bose   April 18, 2008

The sound quality on these speakers is absolutely first rate. The biggest thing going for the IM7 is the built-in sub-woofer for high quality bass. A feature lacking in every ipod speaker that I've seen. Aside from the excellent sound quality, the system comes with a cool little remote control to forward or go back on a playlist, control the volume and turn on/off the unit. Plus it looks stunning in black.

The most obvious question when you're looking to spend over 100 on a speaker is - how does it compare to Bose? I have compared it very closely with the much over hyped Bose SoundDock and SoundDock Pro and the IM7 beats both models hands down. Bose distorts sound at higher volumes and suffers from poor bass quality. Plus Bose is far more expensive.

The only minor issue with the speaker is that it is definitely a bit heavier than most similar systems (again due to the sub-woofer). However if you don't intend to carry around the speaker with you and will mostly keep it plugged in to a power source then you'll be fine.

Definitely worth the price and a 5/5 rating.
