3 out of 5 stars fantastic sound quality, marred by speakers developing fault.   September 28, 2008
Mr. D. Kansara (U>K)
I brought these speakers year from D.S.G Group towards the end of last year. After four months of working fine, i suddenly found the sound quality had diminished rapidly. I have contacted 'logitech support' who felt i should test on a different computer which have done only to find no change. I suppose i will have to exchange for something else i guess, from the shop i brought it from.

4 out of 5 stars good speakers   September 4, 2008

These were bought to replace the 'free' advent speakers that came with our home PC four years ago. They look smart and sound very good. Obviously they are not all-out 'hi-fi' speakers but they have a nice balanced sound and for the purposes of having music playing while doing somethng else they are pretty good. If you really want to listen to the music buy a decent CD player, amp and big speakers. The display is a little gimicky, but looks nice. The touch controls can be a bit fiddly and encourage finger prints on the shiny black surface (they thoughtfully provide a cloth), but we tend to use the controls on the (Logitech) keyboard anyway which work in parallel. Setting them up simply involved plugging them in to the USB port. We had no trouble with USB power as reported by a previous buyer. In summary, a good value upgrade from our real cheapies which I would recommend.

1 out of 5 stars Don't deliver on what they promise   July 3, 2008

Like many, I trusted the Logitech brand and was enticed by the cool touch-sensitive interface of these speakers. They promised some seriously cool features in a sleek package. However, the longer I've had them, the more I wish I'd saved myself the money and bought an unknown brand - it really would have been a better investment.

Don't get me wrong, it's not the sound quality that's an issue, it's the clunky and often defective usability of the Z10 speakers that's the problem.

- These are USB speakers, and unless you have some seriously powered USB ports, they will crash within an hour and require an entire system reboot. This has happnened to me countless times, despite my having a killer PC case and good power supply.

- In addition, USB connectivity means that it's difficult to switch between the speakers and a head-set & mike without much faffing with cables at the back of your PC.

- The touch sensitivity is so high that even brushing the front of the speaker with the mouse cable will trigger the on/off button or your volume setting. If your desk space is even remotely limited, this will become a problem very quickly.

- On the flipside, if you actually want to change the volume, the response time is painfully slow and touch commands can stack up over several seconds, leaving the commands continuing to excute long after you've stopped giving them. This is a particular problem if the speakers have stealthily turned themselves up to maximum (see the earlier point about mouse cables) and you're suddenly deafening the neighbours at 3 a.m.

- A minor issue, but they're also an incredible dust magnet. Something to do with the touch-technology means that they'll fuzz up within an afternoon (even in relatively clean rooms) and you'll find yourself delicately cleaning them every day with the cloth provided, which of course alters your volume settings *again*.

Considering the price, I would advise against a purchase. The idea was great, but the execution was poor. My next PC speakers are going to be plain and simple things, with simple controls and a nice safe connection to my sound card, thanks.

Bought a pair of these whilst out shopping at Xmas. It was an impulse buy but I felt confident as I own a Logitech Mouse and Keyboard. Maybe thats what they should stick to as these speakers are very disapointing. In fact since replacing them with a set of Creative T40 speakers(see my review - they're amazing)I'd go as far to say these Z10's are a lot of money for nothing more than a LED display with a couple of cheap sub-standard speaker cones attached. Avoid these.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional sound   January 6, 2008

I was looking for a replacement set of speakers and chose these on the basis of the reviews here and elsewhere. Buy these and you will not be disappointed - exceptional sound and clarity. I have rediscovered my music collection!!!

One point however which seems to have been missed - the main way of connecting these speakers is via USB - if you do this it by passes your sound card so the best option is to connect via USB for the display and by the speaker jack direct from your sound card to the speaker. You also need to ensure you set your sound card as default for playback and everything works brilliantly.
