Total rubbish July 21, 2008 G. Barnes Bought this to use in our small office but have had to return it. Out of the box the product felt cheap and light, it's a shame as the design is what made me buy the product; on closer inspection I would not have purchased. The sound quality is appalling! When turned on at medium volume you can hear cracking and hissing in the background of your music, after reading the other reviews this problem appears to be the case with the product in general and not just an isolated problem with the speaker that I had. I've had a set of Gear4 Speakers before and they too were not so good, I should have learnt my lesson. If I could have given the product 0 out of 5 I would of, what a waste of time.
A curate's egg July 16, 2008 J. Hampson (UK) The good part; It works well on batteries. The bad: If the mains unit is switched on, with an Ipod Touch, the background noise makes the speakers impossible to enjoy. The result makes the whole set up unsatisfactory, a second unit from Gear4 is just the same, so try before you buy!
Excellent portable speakers July 10, 2008 JW76 (United Kingdom) If you're after a lighweight set of portable speakers for your ipod or other music player these are ideal. The sound is very good considering how thin they are and they can be ran on batteries too. An excellent buy at a great price, thoroughly recommended.
Excellent Design but Interference a Major Problem June 28, 2008 Loved-IT (Kent, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was looking for a small, very light, speaker for my new ipod nano that I could take on holiday and use in places like hotels. The StreetParty Size Zero seemed like an ideal speaker for the job, with a reported weight of 300g and dimensions not much bigger than an average paperback book. It is indeed a very small speaker. Thin and light. The ipod nano fits very well on the dock, though note if you keep your ipod in a protective case like I do you may have to take it out of the case to quickly get a good connection. Sound quality is excellent, and the volume should be more than enough for most purposes. But here's the problem - there is quite a bit of interference (probably coming from the adaptor). Sometimes it sounds like it's picking up morse code, sometimes it's more of an irritating buzz. When listening to music, particularly at high volumes, you won't notice it. If however you are a fan of podcasts or audiobooks then this speaker makes them unlistenable. I didn't know if this was an isolated problem or not, so I tried it in different locations around the house with the same result. Then I took it back to the Retailer and they tried it in the store with the same result. As a final test they tried a new speaker fresh out of the box and the same thing happened. It's disappointing becuase this really is a great looking product.
price performance and portability, well done gear4 June 26, 2008 Mr. C. W. Doody (Staffordshire UK) overall excellent. two drawbacks are, 1 physical conection between ipod and dock a bit weak, and unsuported, prob not made more secure to allow compatability with a wide range of ipods, but if you had an accident i could see it breaking easily, 2 a bit of vibration at some frequencies when played loud, but then what do you expect. other than that its amazing 1 sickly small and compact. mobile with bateries, and an included travle plug and charging adapter. 2 excelent sound quality for its size, tweeters and low freq 2 watt woofer of sorts, make it stand out. 3 tiny remote responceive to button press's and from diferent angles. 4 price performance sweet spot, its so hard to find a decent mid price mid performance dock/speaker system but this is it. it has it all, quality compatcness and price. 5 excelent functionality, knows its way round the i pod software, swiches to the charging screen the moment you stop playing music. instantanious playback. plug n play, sync music to your pc via mini usb port, and play from other sources with a line in port. 6 BUY NOW
