5 out of 5 stars Now this sounds like value for money.....!!   October 11, 2008

I'm new to all this cinema stuff, so be easy on me.

Received this today at 13:32, if you could have seen my face you would have thought it was Christmas day, I was so excited, and still is.

As this was my first cinema surround I wanted to take my time building it together. I'm sure if you have had these before it should take you no time at all, me 4 hours; however, I did this on purpose. The build quality is what you would expect from a mid-range piece of Sony equipment, I know normally better than the rest. I say mid-range as you can pay more for systems like this from Sony; however, for me you get a high standard in return for 305.80.

The easy to use instructions, the colour coded cables and the calibrator makes life so easy. The sound quality is immense, COD4: it's like your their, a Blu-ray: you're in the movie, even normal SAT TV sounds great.

If you have a Sony TV, this will make it better. Beautiful design, simplicity at its bets, and oh yeh, loads of connectivity. I'm sure for all those geeks out there, including me now; you will have months of fun just fine tuning and the rest of your life to enjoying sound as it should be.

This gets 5 stars from me.

p.s. I'm sure you may know already, however, you will need your own HDMI, Optical and Audio cables.

Bought this a couple of days ago to go with my PS3 for games and movies, but also for music, and i must say, the sound is very clear and crisp with a good mid-range. The bass is powerful but not 'boomy'. There are lots of surround options that go great for games like COD4 etc. There are more than enough connections for me (PS3, CD Player via coaxial, Samsung LCD via HDMI output and optical for sound) and it looks very smart and feels solid and well built.
I was going to look at buying something like an Onyko receiver with a seperate speaker package but i'm glad i choose this package instead.

I bought this receiver hoping it has a player but found out its only a receiver and amplifier. the good bit about it is that its compatible with other devices not from sony. Like i connect it to LG TV XD engine, panasonic DMREX98V and now im gona buy blue tooth sony digital media port so that i can play music from my phone thru the media port.
using blue tooth module on my i-touch i can stream music from my ipod using sony blue tooth digital media port on the receiver .
Basically it has three HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. and a special HDMI BD port to connect your blue ray player. if you got a sony bravia tv it syncs perfect with it. i havent proved this but the manual says so.
overall its a nice gadget saving lots of space and money.
