Gymnastics, not YOGA May 3, 2006 mikala (Europe) 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this dvd because I read all the good reviews that it got and I thouhgt that I could save time by cutting my yoga practice in bits, but I did not like this dvd at all. She goes to fast, speaks to much all the time that it give you stress, because you wants to follow as much as possible. She does not give you the time to get deep in to the poses and work with your breathing. She does though explains what the execices are good for and which areas they are working on but other than that, I thought that the quality was not good also because I am used to practice yoga and I thought that this dvd is pure gymnastics, because the way the poses are done do not give you any benefities as yoga poses, they are simply strech work out.
Life Changing Yoga!! February 22, 2006 Judworth (United Kingdom) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I recently purchased this DVD from Amazon; it arrived quickly (which was a God send because I was keen to start getting fitter). I find this DVD challenging, rewarding and relaxing. Of course a beginner like me cannot do all of the poses but after 5 days of using it I am already more supple and toned. It is amazing to stretch out the entire body and to use yoga as a catalyst for your daily work out programme. It has really reminded me of how vital it is to keep my body strong, supple but most of all 'workable' again! Buy it!
Barbara Currie - Total Body Plan [2002] January 23, 2006 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have tried yoga classes at the gym and found it difficult to keep up when learning the positions so i bought this dvd and find it an excellent way to learn yoga at a comfortable pace at home, i followed the whole dvd everyday for a week and noticed an improvement in muscle tone after he first few days, i then did the 15 minute firm up and also varied between one of the other sessions each day for the next couple of weeks and really noticed a difference in my thighs, stomach, bottom, bust and arms. Very pleased with this dvd and itching to use it again to get back into shape after pregnany.
EXCELLENT WORK OUT, UPLIFTING & ENJOYABLE June 28, 2005 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
I hadn't done any yoga before and I'm glad that I found this DVD rather than any other as I tend to give up on things easily, so if the DVD had proved to be unusable, that probably would have been the end of my dip into yoga.As it is I use this DVD every day. Even on the days when I am pushed for time, because it is split into different sections of different lengths. It being a DVD makes it easy to find the section you want of course. When I first tried it I had trouble keeping up, but after about 5 days I was there, more or less. Don't be fooled into thinking yoga is ALL relaxation, sitting funny and humming (this was my previous impression I'm sorry to say!): it often leaves me puffed out even though the moves are mainly slow. I often have to pause and open windows because I get hot and sweaty!!! Now, six months after starting it, I find it much easier than at the beginning, but strangely, 'easier' does not mean 'less demanding'. There is also an 'advanced' section with faster changes between positions and slightly more demanding positions- including some of the same ones as in the main programme but with small changes e.g., feet together not apart, making it more demanding to do. If you're worried you would get bored by the DVD and add it to a pile of dusty old videos you never watch any more, don't even access this advanced section for several months- I didn't for 5, and then it was like a new DVD all over again. I've gone from beginner with arthritis who couldn't walk 50 yards without pain in my back to a very supple & toned 'let's not take the car let's walk' fiend. Try it!
great for beginners hoping to progress December 10, 2004 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
i recently got this on video and have been very impressed with it. those of you acquainted with barbara's inimitable style will already know whether it is for you or not. suffice to say, you could do this video with your eyes closed probably since barbara explains everything so thoroughly. i had got a geri halliwell video thinking less chat would be nicer, but for a total beginner (as i am) it really helps to have someone explaining what you're doing. if you can deal with the incessant chatter then it's really helpful until you get used to the asanas. i have now found after only about a week that i can have some music of my own choice on and turn the sound down, allowing me to follow barbara's movements without all the talk. however, if i am ever getting a bit confused about what's happening i can turn it up and get talked through. i am really enjoying all the movements and already can see changes in my flexibility and how springy i feel when i get out of bed in the morning.... altogether, if you need to be guided through all the positions with a comprehensive description of what you should be doing, this is for you. it has only lost a star because i realise that some people like yoga to be a quiter, more contemplative activity. and remember - "never strain!"
