1 out of 5 stars Waste of Time   August 10, 2008
S. Pitham
Mostly stretches with a couple of BEYOND BASIC pilates moves, and too much commentary in between. I'm annoyed to have purchased this...

The so called exercises in this DVD are just a series of stretches. There are possibly 2 or 3 exercises but they are not specific to Pilates other than the breathing and constant checking of alingment. You would find them in the toning section of other pre and post-natal DVD's. I did not expect to break a sweat doing this but I did expect to feel like my body had worked a little bit.

I was really disappointed by this DVD. It displays only a few extremely basic exercises, too many repetitions of the same movements and the pace is so slow that it is almost impossible to follow! Being already a mum of a three-years old and full-time working, I don't have much time to exercise and I cannot loose so much time for so little. I really wasted my money buying it!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, well-structured, Pilates routine for pregnancy   February 16, 2008

I am staggered at the negative reviews for this product - and am not surprised that those expecting an aerobic routine were disappointed. Clearly they have never done Pilates before, and don't understand this method of exercise. Pilates is all about slow, concentrated movements and deep muscle control, not breaking out into a sweat and jumping around a room following an aerobic instructor. The exercises are designed to lengthen and strengthen the muscles, and NOT to make you feel like you've just run 20 miles. Having done Pilates for the past two years I have found that the routines on this DVD have been extremely useful in continuing my Pilates with my bump. Traditional moves have been adapted well for the different stages of pregnancy, and my back, lower abs and pelvic floor are significantly strengthened - which I am confident will all help me in the latter stages of my pregnancy. I would highly recommend this product, but only to those who have realistic expectations of what Pilates is actually all about!

1 out of 5 stars Not for advanced or fit mums   December 29, 2007

Only for beginners or really unfit mums. I did not find any health benefit. Tried to get my husband to do it with me for fun & even he said it was boring and the music made him want to sleep! Not recommended if you are already used to doing a lot of exercise as it's not challenging enough. Probably made it too 'safe'. Also production is cheap & tacky. Looks like a home video. Not sure why it got such good previous reviews, wish I hadn't bought it. Not worth the money - I ended up giving it away!
