5 out of 5 stars totally lives up to the hype   August 17, 2008

I've been doing exercise videos as a core part of my keep fit routine for about 15 years, and I would definatley rate the Firm DVDs I have got (4 in total - including this one) as the best of the bunch.
I am a mum to a toddler, have a long commute, a stressful job and am renovatting a house and garden, so I want something that deliver results in the shortest time possible.
I find the combination of weights and cardio makes me work hard, I sweat, and have noticed the difference it makes to my body very quickly.
the instructors are proper professionals, and although the shiny, bright white smiles are a little cheesy that is a tiny nit-pick in what are otherwise great DVDs. I'm a convert and am looking to buy more - though am struggling to find the DVDS that will play on my old DVD - which doesn't take region 1.

The Firm: Total Body Time-Crunch [2007]

This is my second The Firm dvd and to be honset I thought it wouldn't be as good because not many people had reviewed it. But to my suprise I actually thought this was a better more challenging workout than the other. I'm no novice when it comes to aerobic training as I have all of Nell McAndrews dvds (plus others) and go to the gym regularly.

I liked the fact I worked up a sweat and felt like I'd actually worked out. Plus it didn't go over an hour which Nell's do and I don't have the time at home because my daughter always interrupts after so long. The instructer was really pleasant and encouraging plus there was a easier option if you needed one which I did until I understood some of the moves.

Perhaps the only downside to this dvd is that it needs more abs work but thats my problem area so I like to do more.

I've would recommend this as a good quick workout with weights that's a good price and which delivers a thorough workout.

This is my third dvd by the Firm and they are brilliant, they really do work. What I loved about this one is it's only 45 mins yet she has you doing exercises that work 3 muscle groups in one exercise, genius. It is not any less work just because it's shorter on time. I really felt it the next day, but not so as I couldn't do any more. Love The Firm, great and at affordable prices too.

After being thoroughly impressed by The Firm: Ultimate Fat Burning I decided to give a few other Firm DVDs a go and this one certainly did not disappoint. Led by Rebekah Sturkie (a proper instructor and not a celebrity), this DVD contains a 45 minute full body workout that combines cardio and weights designed to shape your body whilst you burn fat.

The cardio sections are in the usual Firm format where you gradually add on moves and really raise your heart rate. Aerobics fans will recognise some of the moves (lunges and hamstring curls)but Rebekah adds on moves which were completely new to me however these were explained well and kept it interesting. Some of the leg and arm combinations may seem confusing the first time but it doesn't take too long to get the hang of them and it's certainly worth sticking at it for the sense of achievement you'll feel at the end of the workout.

The weights section is super effective and really works your muscles. Most of the Firm DVDs advise that you use 3lbs to 8lbs dumbbells or lighter or no weights if you're a beginner. Throughout the weight sections you're told whether you should be using light, medium or heavy weights and also when to combine them. It's down to the individual to decide what they consider to be light, medium and heavy. The moves are easy to follow and explained well. Your arms, back and chest are all worked in the different sections and because you're usually lunging or squatting at the same time, your lower body also has a tremendous workout.

The instructor cues well and I found her to be very motivating and not all patronising. She really does seem to have a genuine love for working out and I felt her enthusiasm transfer to me. Reading other reviews of this DVD I think people either tend to love or loathe Rebekah Sturkie as an instructor, but her sculpted body alone made me want to do her workout. Like the other Firm DVDs chit chat is kept to a minimum with the emphasis being on explaining the moves and cuing.

The DVD ends with an absolutely amazing stomach section. The tricep tummy toner move on this DVD became an instant favourite. You really will feel your stomach firm and tighten.

Throughout the DVD beginner modifications are shown by Emily Welsh (another Firm instructor) and there are frequent reminders to follow Emily if you're new or struggling. There is also a 25 minute Express Workout if you're short on time but still want a good workout.

I found the DVD to be fun, challenging and effective combining aerobics and toning. It's great to see an exercise DVD being led by someone who knows what they're doing instead of a celebrity simply lending their name to a DVD but leaving the instruction down to someone else. The get on with it attitude in the Firm has converted me and I think it's a shame that there's no real equivalent in the UK.
