A Great Film! October 28, 2008 Jake M (England) War movies don't usually appeal to me but "Yanks" is truely a great film and it dosn't surprise me one bit that it was a box office hit back in 1979. It's a beautiful story with a great cast, both moving and funny at times and it even has a cameo from Lynne Perrie. So, even if you're not a fan of war movies, "Yanks" is still a classic piece of work which you have just got to see because I for one was pleasantly surprised when I purchased it. Highly Recommended!
Too many clichés for my liking October 19, 2008 Michael D. Mitchell (Spalding, England) I watched about half of this film on television, but eventually just got bored with the cliché-ridden box-ticking that had obviously persisted in the director's mind. From the opening shots of a dark, dank, damp Northern town to the immediate antagonism between most of the indigenous population and the "invaders", the obligatory pub fight between Yanks and the British, the way the American ate his food, but wasted ham - it was all too much for me, I'm afraid! Second helpings were off the menu, so I went and read a book instead.
The only Keighley man not to be in this film. July 6, 2008 Yorkshire Man (Keighley, UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Every other person you meet in Keighley over the age of 40 seems to have been in this excellent film. The acting is suberb except for American actress Lisa Eichhorn doing a really bad Yorkshire accent which almost spoils every scene she is in. Were there no Yorkshire actresses available ? Richard Gere was not a star when he made it but was when it came out. Everyone who worked on the film said how friendly he was, unlike some other other American actors, all of whom seem to have not made it.
